“Here’s your suite, guys,” Dax announced as he winked a sneaky eye at me. Beverly hadn’t replied to the fact that Dax was suggesting we be roommates. The smile on her face as she took in the suite was all I needed to see.

“I’ll meet you downstairs,” Dax informed, exiting the room first. Laura and I lingered. She glared at me before she turned her gaze to Beverly. “I’ll check on you in a little bit.”

“Okay,” Beverly replied while nodding toward her retreating friend.

“Are you okay?” I took a few steps closer.

“I’m fine. This place is off the beaten path, and you’re here, so I feel safe.” Her words filled me with that tingling warmth that came only from her.

My fingers skimmed her arm to squash my need for her I’d so quickly developed.

“If you need anything, you can yell down or text me. I’ll sleep downstairs on the couch. Relax and get some rest, and I’ll check back later.” I turned away from her before whatever stirred every time I was near her gripped me and drew me closer. The last thing I wanted was her changing her mind about not being afraid of me.
