“I hope I’m not wrong in assuming that you’re interested in me,” I blurted, making his grin appear.

“That’s correct,” he offered, his lips twitching into a wide smile.

“Would I be wrong in assuming that you’re not looking for anything long-term?” I questioned, hoping he’d be honest. He pursed his lips, clearly considering my question.

“You’re right. Currently, my life doesn’t allow me to pursue anything long-term.”

“I’m honestly flattered you are interested in me. It’s a huge compliment. However, I’ve been through the wringer with men and promised myself I wasn’t going to be anyone else’s one-night stand or temporary fulfillment. I would like something more meaningful with at least the chance of being long-term,” I told him, watching his face drop a bit.

“I understand better than you think. As much as I’d love to give you what you’d like, I can’t promise it. What do you say? Let’s take things day by day and concentrate on securing your safety? Let’s allow whatever will or will not happen between us to unfold as it should or shouldn’t.”

His gracious attitude on what I assumed would be a difficult subject had me grinning and more at ease.
