My gun was up, aimed, and ready to fire before my eyes had fully opened.
“Put that away,” Alesso said in a low tone, unbothered that my gun was pointed at her head. Her gaze dropped to Nevah, whose head was in my lap atop the pillow, except she had managed to wrap her arms around my torso. Her breaths were low and labored, revealing that she was fully asleep and perfectly comfortable.
Alesso’s smile widened, and she finally lifted her gaze to meet mine. “Never thought I’d see the day,” she whispered. “But I guess it happens to the best of us.”
My brow lifted in response to her comment while I tucked my pistol back under the pillow next to me.
“Aurelio is staying. I’m going to join Zaire in Italy so we can work this thing from both sides of the planet.”
I nodded, knowing we had answers to find before the DeLuca family tree lost more branches and leaves. Alesso cast one more glance at Nevah and met my waiting gaze once more before she walked away, shaking her head and grinning.
