“See!” Millie points at Gabi and then looks at Butch. “Izzy already knows more than me. It’s not fair. Catch me up. Now. Kit, say something if he’s not going to. No one eats until we know what’s going on.”
I look at Butch. “We’re together. I think it’s okay if I say that, right?”
He gives me a quick kiss. “It’s definitely okay with me. Are you sure you’re good?”
“I’m perfect.” I look over at Millie’s beaming face. “Are you good now? Can we please order?”
“I’m also perfect,” Millie says. “We can eat now.”
After Gabi takes our orders, Millie thankfully changes the subject. “Elle was telling me what’s going on with Sam.”
“Yeah,” Butch says. “I’m glad we ran into him when we did, but I’m not sure he can get out of the deal at this point.”
“What’s happening?” Mason asks.
“Sam signed a letter of intent to sell Blitzen to my ex’s dad—the guy Millie hit last night,” Elle says. “He didn’t know who he was. He’s trying to get out of it, but apparently we need to find another buyer who can beat Trip’s offer of ten million.”
“Alex was over there when we left,” I say. “He’s got money. Maybe he can buy Blitzen.”
“I don’t think he can,” Millie says. “From what Raine’s told me, he’s got a lot of his money wrapped up in investments in Puerto Rico. I think he’s trying to create some industry and jobs in the town where he grew up.”
“Where is Raine, by the way?” Butch asks.
“She’s headed over here in a few minutes,” Millie says. “She had a work call she had to take.”
“Does anyone know any rich people besides Alex?” Elle asks, her face falling a little bit.
“I know people who are richer than me,” Mason says. “A lot of them, but none that are ten million dollars rich.”
“Kit and I were talking about pooling our money to place an offer,” Butch says. “This town is so great. I don’t want to see it ruined. Maybe if we all go in together.”
“If we all pooled our money,” Millie says, “we’d still be about nine million, nine hundred thousand short. Unless you have money, Kit?”
“Nope,” I say, looking at Butch. “Sorry to disappoint you if you were after me for my money.”
He kisses me again. “You already know I’m after you for other things.”
“Gross,” Millie says, burying her head in Mason’s chest. “Please don’t do sex talk in front of me.”
Butch points at her. “You can shut up right now. You’ve put me through complete hell these last few years with Mason. You two are the most inappropriate PDA people ever to live. I have so much catching up to do.”
“And stop before you even say anything,” I say, looking at Elle. “The same goes for you and Nash. Completely inappropriate.”
“I wasn’t going to say anything,” Elle says, leaning back in her chair. “I think it’s cute. You do all of the hugging and kissing—”
She stops as Raine comes bursting through the door and runs top speed over to Butch. She grabs his head and whispers something into his ear.
“What?” he says, pushing her back. “What are you talking about?”
