A huge man walks up from behind Trip and tries to steady him. “You okay, Mr. Walker?”

“No, I’m not okay.” Trip yanks his arm away and points at Millie. “Did you see what she just did? You’re supposed to be my bodyguard.”

“Yeah, I saw.” Brady starts shuffling his feet. “But I mean, she’s a woman. Kind of a small woman, too. I can’t hit her.”

“She hit me!” Trip whips around and glares up at Brady. “Do something!”

“I know, but,” Brady says, still shuffling. He looks at Millie. “Don’t hit him, okay?”

“That’s up to him,” Millie says. “If he talks to any of us again, he’s going down—harder next time.”

Trip grabs her shoulders and pulls her into him. “I’ll talk to anyone I want!”

Millie knees him in the groin. When he bends over to grab his balls, she puts an elbow hard into his ear. He collapses face down onto his stomach.

“Oh my God!” I yell, staring at her with my eyes wide. “You’re like a ninja.”

“I’m going to sue you,” Trip says, groaning as Brady tries to help him up. “I’ll find out who you are and I’m going to sue you into oblivion.”

“Bring it,” Millie says, shaking my hand off her shoulder. “Millie Davis, San Diego. But maybe let me give you another shot to make it worth your time.”

Trip throws his arms over his head and shrinks into a little ball.

“That’s plenty from you,” Brady says, spinning Millie around so her back’s against him. He wraps his massive arms around her and starts pushing her away from Trip.

“Get your hands off her, asshole!” Raine says, grabbing one of his arms.

Brady keeps moving—hauling Raine along for the ride. Millie’s trying and failing to break his grip as he keeps pushing them toward the door. Elle starts pounding on his back. I’m frozen in place watching everything unfold like it’s a movie until someone grabs my arm. I spin around and backhand the person in the face.

“Holy shit!” Jim says, grabbing his cheek. “I was just going to tell you that reinforcements are on their way.”
