“I guess.” She finally relaxes against me and sighs loudly. “I’m moving to L.A. within the month. We can try this courting thing if you’re willing to drive from San Diego to L.A.”

“I’m very willing.”

“Okay,” she says, looking up at me. “What exactly does this courting involve?”

“Whatever you want it to involve—dinner, movies, treading-water competitions. You know, maybe get to know each other better.”

“So you have to get to know a woman before you have sex with her?”

“I definitely do not,” I say, laughing. “I’m just trying to give you time to process your breakup.”

“Oh,” she says, laying her arm on top of mine. “I don’t need time. I’ve been officially out of the relationship for a few days, but in my mind, it’s been done for months.”

“Okay,” I say as we close in on the boats. “Let’s talk about it later. Deal?”

She squeezes my hand. “Deal.”

I give her a quick kiss on the top of the head as I swim the last few yards. She lets go of my hand and rolls off my body.

“Here, I’ll grab you, Kit,” Nash says as she swims over. “Give me your hands.”

He pulls her out of the water as I push her butt up. I give it one more subtle squeeze before she disappears over the side.

When I climb onto our boat, Raine hands me a towel. “Are you done fishing? We want to head back to take showers and maybe get some naps before we head over to Nash’s.”

“Yep,” I say, throwing the towel over my head to hide my eyes from Millie who’s closing in on my other side.

“You’re all good,” Raine whispers. “Only Millie and I saw the kiss.”

“It was totally hot, though. You got me all horny.” Millie hip checks me as she walks by. “I’m going to be all over Mason the minute we get back into our room.”

“Too much sharing, Millie,” I say, whipping her backside with my towel. “You know I don’t want to think about that stuff where you’re concerned.”

“Right back at you,” she says, straddling Mason’s lap and attacking his face.

“So disgusting. It’s like watching my brother and sister kiss,” I say, turning away. I look over at Kit. She’s whispering with Elle. “Kit, do you want to come back to the inn with us?”

She whips her head around to me. “I probably should. I mean, I want to take a shower and a nap, too.”

“Yes.” Elle shoves Kit’s bag into her arms. “You definitely should go with them. Definitely.”

As I help Kit onto our boat, she looks over her shoulder at Elle. “Are you coming over to the inn for dinner?”

“No, I think everyone’s coming over to our place,” Elle says, looking over her shoulder at Nash. “Right, babe?”

“Yeah,” Nash says. “Come over around four. I’ll clean the fish and have them ready to grill.”

“Do you need any help cleaning them?” Mason asks as Millie finally lets him come up for air. “We can come over early.”

“Naw,” Nash says. “I’m all good.”

I look over at him as I push their boat away. “Do you know how to debone a catfish?”

“Who the fuck do you think you’re talking to?” He shakes his head. “Get away from me before I use my knife to debone your dumb ass.”

I turn to Alex. “See what he did there? Personal, threatening, and he used what I said against me. Perfect trash talk. Honestly, it’s making me tear up a little bit.”

“Sit down,” Alex says, nodding toward the captain’s chair. “And get us back to the marina already. I’ve spent more than enough time with you for the day.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to come with us, Kit?” Nash says, putting his boat in reverse. “It might be quieter.”

“Quiet is overrated, Nash,” Kit says, flashing a quick smile at me.

Nash looks at me and then back to her. He shakes his head.

“Out!” he yells as they drive away. “Completely out.”
