“Stop,” Nash says, reaching into the back seat and swatting my leg. “Seriously, stop. All I want to do is make Elle happy, and having you here with us would make her stupid happy. There’s no question about it. You’re moving here.”

“What he said,” Elle says, her hands going back into prayer position. “Please.”

“I need to think about it a little bit more, but maybe,” I say as Elle’s lips form into a pout. “Okay, probably.”

“Yay!” Her face collapses from a broad smile immediately into a frown. “Wait, is that why you and Mateo broke up? Does he not want to move here?”

“He definitely doesn’t want to move here. I told him he couldn’t come with me this week because I needed to think about everything. He said if I came here without him that we were done, so I guess we’re done.”

“He gave you an ultimatum?” Nash laughs and glances back at me. “Did he seriously think you wouldn’t call his bluff? Damn, I didn’t think he was that kind of stupid.”

“Neither did I,” I say. “Neither did I.”
