“I know,” she whispers. “I’m just going to miss him.”

“We’ll FaceTime every morning when he wakes up,” Mack says.

She buries her face into Mo’s stomach. “Bye, baby. Mommy will miss you so much.”

“Muh-muh,” Mo says, giggling as he pats her head.

“We don’t have to go,” Mason says, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.

“Yes, we do.” Millie pushes herself away from Mo and buries her face against Mason’s chest. “I want to have lots of uninterrupted sex in the mountains with my husband.”

“Millie!” Mack says, covering Mo’s ears. “Not in front of the baby. Or me. God. Just no.”

“Come on, Mack,” I say, nodding toward their house. “It’s not like Mo doesn’t hear them going at it every night. Their place isn’t that big.”

Mack whips his head around to me. I take a step back. Even holding a baby, he scares the hell out of me. “Get in the car, Butch. Or I’m using the keys to carve my name on your soul.”

“Damn,” I say, nodding. “That’s the one—threatening, dominant, and personal. A-plus trash talk right there.”

Mason kisses the top of Millie’s head and starts to guide her toward the car. “Let’s go, babe. He’ll have the time of his life with Mack and Carol. He’ll be completely spoiled by the time we get back.”

“Damn straight he will,” Mack says, hugging Mo to his chest. “Drive safely. Call us when you get there.”

“We will,” Mason says as he turns Millie away from them. He looks at Alex. “You mind if I take shotgun?”

“You’re asking? Are you sure you don’t want to put me in a death grip and tie me to the roof or something?”

“I mean, it’s your choice,” Mason says, “but I thought I’d try the easy way first.”

“Take it,” Alex says. “I’ll sit in the back with Raine. I need some snuggle time.”

“I swear to God if I hear sex sounds coming from back there,” I say, starting the car, “I’m driving this thing off the side of the mountain.”

“Better put on some headphones then,” Alex says as Raine starts giggling. I look in the rearview mirror to see them nuzzling together.

“God, I can’t take a full week of them. Or you two, to be honest,” I say as Millie leans up from the row behind us. “Y’all have been together way too long to still be so touchy.”

“Butch,” Millie says, squeezing my shoulder. “If we don’t find a woman for you in Blitzen Bay, you can cuddle with Mason and me.”

“You definitely cannot do that,” Mason says.

Another round of laughter comes from the back. I look in the mirror again. Raine’s squirming as Alex kisses her neck.

“Mills, break them up right now.” I hand her the water bottle out of my cup holder. “Throw this on them.”

She takes it from me and puts it back in my cupholder. “You’re really grouchy today. I mean even more than usual. Maybe the change in elevation will do you good.”

“He’s been an asshole for months,” Mason says. “It’s going to take a lot more than mountain air to cure him.”

“New topic,” I say. “And Millie, sit back and put your seatbelt on.”

“Okay, grumpy,” she says, sliding back into her seat. “Will someone tell me more about the people we’re visiting in Blitzen? Everyone’s met them except me.”

“We only met Noelle,” Raine says. “She showed us around Pepperdine when Alex was there for his law school interviews. She just finished her first year there.”

“What’s she like?” Millie says.

“She’s as sweet as they come,” Raine says. “Like I mean dripping sweetness down to her core. She reminds me a little of you, Mills.”
