“I’m not telling you what to do.” I reach out and take her hand. “I made a stupid joke. That’s it. Seriously, I have your back no matter what. And I think we both know if I was telling you what to do, you’d do the exact opposite anyway.”

She laughs a little bit and lets me pull her back down to the couch.

“Let me ask it another way,” I say, taking a deep breath. “If you had all the money in the world, what would you do?”

“I would give you all of it to stop asking me questions.” She smiles, but I can tell she’s done with this conversation.

“I will do that for free.” I pull her into a hug. “You’ll be a great lawyer. And since I made you mad, you get to ask me another question.”

She surrenders into the hug. “Same one, if you had all the money in the world, what would you do?”

“Exactly what I’m doing now—talking to you.”
