“I think killing them might be a slight overreaction,” she said.
Mack shrugged, not convinced. Millie laid her head on his shoulder and sighed. All she wanted was for the next couple months to speed by, so she could move in with him, and just be his daughter.
“Mack.” Millie looked up to see a man in uniform standing behind them.
“Hey, Chase,” Mack said. “This is my daughter, Millie.”
“Oh, wow. Hey, Millie. The last time I saw you, you were still a baby. How old are you now?”
“Sixteen. Almost seventeen.”
“Sixteen. She’s sixteen,” Mack said.
“Well, it’s so nice to finally meet you. Mack talks about you non-stop.”
Millie smiled. “Thank you. It’s nice to meet you, too.”
“Mack, we’ve got a meeting. I’m sorry to interrupt, but you’ve got to be in there.”
“I know. I’ll be there in a minute,” Mack said.
“Nice to meet you, Millie,” Chase said as he walked back toward the building.
“Nice to meet you, too!”
“Sweetie, I’ve got to go back to work, but I’ll be down there this weekend to pick you up. Okay?” Mack said as he helped Millie into the jeep.
They drove in silence back to her car.
Mack hugged Millie tightly. “Drive safely back home, and text me when you get there.”
Millie nodded her head and gave him one last squeeze. “I love you, Daddy. More than anything in the world.”
He kissed her on the head. “We’ll be together soon, Millie. Only two more months.”
