“Joe, our team security guy,” he says, pulling me away from the door and into the gigantic bathroom suite. He grabs a T-shirt out of his suitcase. “Here, you can wear this after you take a shower. I’ll take care of Allie.”
“This is making me uncomfortable, Alex. Maybe you should talk to her. Did you guys date long?”
He sits on the side of the tub. “We didn’t date at all. I took her to dinner once. Then we went to a friend’s party together. We had sex a few times. That was it. Seriously, it took place over two weeks. I told her then that I didn’t want to see her anymore and I told her again last night. She’s a stalker. Unfortunately, that happens a little in my profession.”
I sit down next to him and pat his leg. “Well, if it makes you feel any better, we’ve only known each other for a day, so I promise I won’t stalk you after this weekend.”
“What if I want you to?” he says, smiling. “Or maybe I’ll stalk you.”
“Are you forgetting I work with Navy SEALs?”
“Yeah, that could be a problem.” He looks down at his phone. “It’s Joe. I need to talk to him. Take a shower. I’ll be back in a minute.”
“Do you mind if I take a bubble bath instead? This tub is ridiculous.”
“I don’t mind at all. Just don’t drown before I get back. It’s way too big for one person, especially a you-sized person.”
I smile as I start running the water. “No promises. You know what a bad swimmer I am.”
