“Roger that,” he says, turning me around so I can see Alex walking toward us.

Just seeing him again almost takes my breath away. My mind snaps back to when he was inside me—my hands grabbing at the beautiful muscles in his back. His eyes are fixed on me as he makes his way across the lobby.

“Hey,” he says gently as he tries to take my hand. “Good morning.”

“Good morning,” I say, pulling my hand away.

He looks at Butch and then back at me. “Am I interrupting something?”

“Not at all,” I say, pointing back toward the drink table. “Butch was just complaining about the fruit that’s floating in the water.”

Butch looks at me—his eyes narrowing. “I’m just saying that water should taste like water.”

“Did you change your mind about the fishing trip, Butch?” Alex says, his eyes still firmly fixed on me.

“Nope,” Butch says, motioning across the lobby to Roman. “In fact, it looks like they’re finally ready to go. Roman said we’re coming over to Seb and Sophie’s after we’re done fishing, so I’ll see you over there.”

“Okay,” I say, my voice getting higher as I look up at him. “Have fun. Catch a big one or whatever.”

His eyes narrow further. He always knows when something’s wrong with me. “You good?”

“Yeah, I’m fine. Seriously. All good. I’ll see you over there.”

“Okay,” Butch says, walking away backward. “Alex, keep an eye on her. Don’t let her fight with anyone. Except for maybe Savannah. And if that happens, make sure you send me a video.”

Alex nods at him and then turns back to me. “What’s wrong? Are you having second thoughts about last night?”

“Not at all. I’m just a little tired. I didn’t get much sleep.”

He slides his arms around my waist. “I told you that you’d sleep better on my chest, but you wanted to go back to your room.”

He tries to kiss me, but I pull back.

“Raine, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong,” I say, looking around the lobby. “There are just a lot of eyes everywhere down here.”

He pulls me back into an alcove and presses me against the wall. “We’re all alone here,” he says, planting his lips firmly on mine. “I missed you.”

“For the six hours we’ve been apart?” I take a deep, shaky breath as he runs his hands up and down my back.

“Every second of it,” he growls. “Maybe we can go back to my room and pick up where we left off.”

I push at his chest. “I was going to get breakfast.”

He starts kissing my neck. “We can get room service,” he whispers.

“Alex, no.” I push him again. This time he takes a step back. His face tightens as he looks down at me.

“Tell me what’s wrong.” His eyes are so intense that I have to look away. “Raine, what’s changed? What’s happening?”

When I don’t answer, he grabs my hand and starts pulling me toward the restaurant. “Come on. Let’s get breakfast.”

“Maybe we shouldn’t eat together in public,” I say, pulling back on his hand.

He spins around. “Wait. Do you not want to be seen with me in public?”

“That’s not it.”
