“Oh yeah,” she says, smiling. My hands curl into fists. I want to punch the smile off her face. “It was consensual. Very consensual.”

I concentrate hard to keep the anger building up inside me from coming out in my voice. It doesn’t work. “So two consenting adults have sex. You blackmail Seb into paying you to keep quiet about it. He does it. Then he asks for you to be removed from the clubhouse because it’s uncomfortable for him to be around you. Am I getting everything?”

“You don’t have to get so defensive.” Liza laughs as she walks out of the office. “I’m not interested in him anymore. Believe me. He’s all yours, but don’t say I didn’t warn you when he dumps you, too.”

I watch her walk out of the office. I can’t move. I think I’m in shock. I can’t believe he lied to me. I jump when I hear Gentry’s voice right behind me.

“Sophia,” Gentry says, putting his hand on my shoulder. “It’s all over social media that Seb stayed at an apartment complex in Coconut Grove last night. I know that’s where you live. I’m guessing that’s not a coincidence.”

I shove his hand off my shoulder and take a quick step back toward the door. “How do you know where I live?”

“That’s not the important thing here.” He walks toward me. “I believe it’s in your contract that you can’t have a personal relationship with any of the players. I’m going to have to tell my dad about it.”

“Tell him what you want. My personal life is none of his business, and it’s definitely none of yours.”

“I don’t have to tell him.” He takes another step toward me. “Maybe we can make an arrangement.”

“I’m not interested in any kind of arrangement with you,” I say, spitting the words out. “I’m sure you’ve tried to makearrangementswith some other women in this office. Is that what daddy’s covering up for you?”

He smiles, trying to mask the surprise in his eyes. “I think you misunderstood me, Sophia. And I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Covering up? I think you’ve been doing this job too long. You’re getting suspicious. I was just hoping that you would do a little work for me—personal work.”

“Hard pass,” I say, turning toward the door. “I’m not doing anything for you.”

The minute I turn my back on him, I know it’s a mistake. I feel one of his hands on my shoulder, pulling me back toward him, and the other one grabbing my butt.

I put an elbow hard into his eye as I spin around. He screams as his hands fly over his face.

“If you ever touch me again, you’re going to lose a fucking arm,” I say, shoving his shoulder.

He looks up, a smile trying to form through his grimaced face. Before he can recover, I kick him hard in the crotch. He grunts and falls to his knees.

“Over the line, Gentry,” I say, pointing at him as I back toward the door. “Way over the line.”

I keep my eyes on him as I back out of the room. When I’m almost to the door, I run smack into someone else.

“What’s over the line?” I hear Seb growl from behind me.
