“Ooo!” She throws her hands over her mouth. “Rock!”

I nod. “If my car’s going to have a name, it can be called The Rock.”

“Rock Range Rover—”

“No,” I say, holding up my hand. “It doesn’t have a last name. It’s just The Rock.”

Her face is serious like we’re approving a treaty. “Agreed.”

I glance in the rearview mirror and see Joe tailing us. He was not at all happy when I told him I was going to ride with Sophie, but he kept his mouth shut.

“Is that Joe?” she says, looking back. “Are you mad at him for following us?”

“No, he follows me everywhere. I’m sure you’ve figured that out by now. The team makes him. He’s just doing his job.”

“Then why are you mad at him?”

“Why did you ask Roman to look into him?” I glance at her and then look back at the road. “Did Joe do something to you?”

“No, but he told me to back off you—to not dig any deeper into why you had Liza removed.”

“That’s why I’m pissed at him,” I say, trying to loosen my death grip on the steering wheel. “He doesn’t need to be telling you to do anything.”

“He apologized, but I get the feeling he’s covering something up.”

“For me?” I take another peek at her.

“Maybe,” she says slowly, “but I was talking more about covering for Gentry.”

“Covering what for him?” My head snaps toward her. “Roman said something about Gentry to me. What’s going on? Is he bothering you?”

“I think he bothers everyone.” She lets out a tense laugh.

“Yeah, that’s for sure, but what aren’t you telling me?”

“What aren’t you telling me?” She crosses her arms again.

I ignore her last question. “About Gentry, Sophie. What aren’t you telling me? What did he do?”

She sighs. “He hasn’t done anything—to me.”

“Meaning?”

“I don’t know. There’s a rumor going around that he might have a pattern of harassment against female employees of the team. I don’t know for sure. I don’t have any solid proof.”

I pull over to the side of the road and stop the car. “I want you to stay away from him,” I say, locking my eyes with hers.

“You sound like Joe now,” she says. “Do you know something?”

“I don’t know anything. I mean, I know he’s an asshole, but this is the first I’m hearing about that. I don’t want you near him anymore.”

She stares at me for a second. “Seb, if the rumors are true, he needs to be stopped.”

“That’s not your job.” I reach out and take her hand. “Sophie, please don’t get near him unless I’m around. Please. I’m worried about you. And I think Roman might kill me if I let anything happen to you. Promise me.”

She nods her head. “Okay, I promise. And you’re not wrong about Roman.”

We both jump as we hear a tap on the window behind me. It’s Joe.
