“Then you can leave and consider yourself banned from the building.”

“You can’t ban me from the team!”

“The board said I could if you decide to be a fuckwit, and that’s just what you’re doing. If you want to push it, just try me.”

Trey narrowed his eyes.

“You’re only doing this because you want Marigold for yourself. I’ve seen how you look at her. Well, I got there first. You can have my sloppy seconds.”

It was so childish that Darren almost burst out laughing. He simply gave Trey a smile.

“Trust me, what Marigold has got you never got to taste. Otherwise, you would never have let her go. That shows how much attention you give your ladies if you don’t know how amazing they are. You only care about yourself. Now, get the fuck out of here, or I’m calling security to have you removed.”

Trey looked like he was about to protest, but there was a pointed cough from the doorway. Allison was there, holding up her cell phone.

“I’m on speaker with them. They’ll be up here as soon as you say the word, Darren.”

“It’s up to Trey.” Darren faced the other man. “Do you want to leave under your own steam, or do you want to be carried out? And we won’t make it discreet.”

For a moment, he really thought they were going to have to call security. But then Trey huffed and stormed out, almost knocking Allison out of the way. Darren went to her as they heard Trey’s footsteps slamming out of the office.

“You okay?”

“I’ll live.” Allison looked bemused. “Did the board really say all that?”

“Yep. He’s pissed off more than just us, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to do that.” Darren shrugged. “At least we don’t have to deal with the bastard anymore.”

“That should make Marigold happy. Speaking of which, here you go.” Allison held out a key. “This is my copy for Marigold’s place. You can let yourself in.”

“You trust me with this?”

“Marigold’s not well. She needs someone to look after her, not to make her do anything.” Allison patted his cheek. “I know you’ll be able to do that.”

Darren liked the sound of that.

“Can you let Jake and Nathan know I’m heading over there now? They can join me once they’re done.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure. You can hold the fort on your own, can’t you?”

“Sure.”

Darren went back to his desk and closed down the laptop, packing up his things. After dealing with Trey, the last thing he wanted to do was work. He had something better he wanted to do.

Like cuddling Marigold and not letting go.
