“I just don’t get why Fin’s still alive.”
“We both know you would be pissed if anyone killed him before you had your chance.” He gives me his brotherly smirk. I can’t tell if he’s joking or being serious.
“You would have no problem if I walked up to him and ended his life?” I ask. He’s the boss now. A hit like that would have to be approved by him.
“I always have your back. You’re my sister.”
“What if I said I have a way to destroy him?”
“You pretending he’s that gun?” He nods toward my hands.
“Fuck off.” There’s no venom behind my tone. It’s the first time I’ve smiled since being home. The expression strains my face, pulling muscles that haven’t been used in weeks.
“You already have my attention. What would be worse than killing him?”
“I found that his uncle did conceive a child. One older than Fin.”
“You want to dethrone him?” Shock lights up my brother’s face.
“Precisely.”
“If that’s what you need to have closure, then you have my blessing.” He pauses before adding, “If you do end up killing him, give me a heads-up.”
“Thank you.”
I place my gun down and sharpen the knife Fin gifted me the day he asked to marry me. It would be more poetic if he died from his own gift.
I’vespentthelastweek watching Fin. Him strutting around like he owns the world. He’s surrounded by men at all times. I guess the lone wolf got lonely, and now look at him. His presence makes my stomach sick.
Fin has inflicted so many scars on my soul. Each time I set my eyes on him, it’s like the scars burn hot, refusing to let them heal completely. They fade as time stretches on, and his memory takes a back seat, but as soon as he’s back in my life, they tear open once again. I have to be strong; otherwise, I’ll crumble. When I fall, no one is ever there to pick me up.
I keep watching him through the pain of it all. He walks like a king, his men following him proudly. The confidence, danger, and power he exudes once turned me on. I now feast on how it drives me for revenge.
I stay in the shadows, waiting for my time. Eventually, he sends his men away and steps out of his mansion, his headquarters that used to be his uncle’s.
I hold my breath, making sure he’s alone. The metal rings around my fingers from the curved knife are tight against my skin.
“I’ve been waiting for you to make your move,” his deep voice says.
I step out of the shadows, revealing myself. “This time, I won’t miss,” I spew angrily. Each moment I had to watch him, I could feel myself losing control. All I can envision is my blade driving into him.
“I knew this moment would come.” His expression is sincere. He doesn’t look scared or worried. It stokes my rage further. “If I’m to die, I am willing to die from the one woman who I have loved my entire life.”
He opens his arms, taking out the two guns that are hidden beneath his suit jacket. Bending his knees, he places them on the ground while watching me. He takes the gun from his ankle and sets it by the other two.
“Pick them back up,” I demand.
“You wanted me alone. I’m giving it to you. I love you, Luna. I can’t keep living without you,” Fin confesses.
My soul is bleeding. “You shot me!” I snap, his response irritating me. My fingers claw at my scalp, and the way his eyes light reminds me I’m wearing his knife. The weapon I need to kill him with.
“The first chamber wasn’t loaded with a real bullet. I was waiting for you to pull your gun on me first. I was angry with you. I saw you with Max fucking Mancini, then my uncle told me that you were planning to kill me at our fucking wedding!” he yells, his own control breaking.
About time.I need him to lash out. It will be easier for both of us when one dies.
“I had no choice. It was you or Katrina. Family protects family. You would have done the same.”
His eyes grow wide, blazing. “Bullshit!” he argues. “I put a bullet inmyuncle to saveyourfamily. I knew they would use their last breath to save you. My punishment should have been death. When I saw you lying in your own pool of blood, I knew life without you was not worth it. I welcomed the relief of immediate death. I hoped for it.”
