Folding my arms, I hiss out. “It’s my Jar, therefore my key.”

“Why do you want it?”

It’s not like Jed won’t tell them our plan. “We want to rip Typhon out of Archan and shove him in the Jar.”

Zac chuckles, creeping me out. There’s something violent in his laugh. “How do you plan on doing that?”

“We are going to use a reversal spell.”

“No such spell exists.”

“Not yet, but we’re working on it.”

“Then get back to me when you have the rest of the elements you need to pull this off.”

“Why are you being obtrusive?”

“I take great pleasure in pissing you off.”

“And do you take great pleasure in ending the world?”

Another wave crashes. “I don’t trust you.”

“How did that work out for you last time? Oh, that’s right, you and Archan let Typhon out into the world.”

“Muppets,” Emi mutters.

“Who was that?” Zac snarls.

I glance at Emi, who is shaking her head. “Me,” I answer, “I called you muppets.”

“Strange choice of insult, Natia. You’re much more snarky.”

“You’re critiquing my choice of barb? Wow, arrogant, aren’t we?” I sigh. “I need the key, Zac.”

“No.” The phone flashes before the screen goes blank.

“Is that the way he says goodbye?” I ask Jed.

Jed snatches his phone and shoves it in his pocket. “He’s an acquired taste.”

Emi snorts. I glance at her and frown. Thousands of years of family history sit between these people, most of which won’t be reported by historians and worshippers.

“I vote we go get the key,” I state, standing and swiping my hands down my leather pants. I’m already dressed for action. Jed presses his hand on my shoulder, forcing me to sit back down.

“Pick a side, Jed,” I grind out.

“There are no sides. You both want the same thing; to save Archan and kill or imprison Typhon.”

“Prove it.”

He gives me a weary look. “How?”

“Take me to go get the key.”

“And tell us what you know about the link between Lawrence and Typhon,” Aaden adds.

“Fine, I’ll take you to where the key might be. As for the link, Lawrence is making a play to take over hell, and he’s using Typhon as his attack dog.”
