“You’re still doing it,” I mutter. “Untie me.”
Various chuckles surround me as Zee moves. “You’re not tied up… is that something else that happened?” he asks as his arms tighten around me.
Was it? I remember singing, walking…”Oh my god!” I shout. My limbs experience a sudden jolt of energy and I wriggle in Zee’s arms. He drops me. I bounce on the bed, rip my pump off and glare at my foot. “I’m going to kill him. Lucifer’s balls be damned, by the time I’m done with his sidekick, the only thing left will be his balls.”
Jed frowns as everyone gazes at my hand, tracing the tender flesh of my new tattoo. “What does it say?” I shout to no one in particular. “He better not have made me get something fucked up like, ‘Babylon is the world’s leading dictionary and translation software’.”
Jed shoves my hand away from the tattoo and reads the elegant script that swirls along the arch of my foot. Unless I’m wearing sandals, you wouldn’t be able to see it.
“It’s Latin. It says, ‘Let your faith be bigger than your fears,’” Jed says, running his thumb over the ink. I swallow the lump in my throat as Jed glances at me. “Does it mean something to you?”
“Yes, it’s something my Gran used to say to me.” At least I had some coherent thought whilst making dubious decisions.
“Poetic,” Aaden mumbles as Emi hooks her arm in his.
“Where’s my phone?” I ask.
Duncan shoves his hand in his jeans pocket and draws out my phone. He passes it to me; I tap out a rapid text.
Me – You made me get a tattoo.
The three little dots blink.
Ant – Nobody held you down.
I huff.
Me – True. But as my friend, it’s in your job description to stop me making silly decisions whilst under the influence.
Ant – If you wanted fluffy friends who braid each other’s hair, I suggest you stay away from the devil.
Me – **Eye roll emoji**
Ant – If it makes you feel better, I got one too.
Me – Of what?
He sends a picture. I blink at the sunset colored rose surrounded by black wings.
Me – That’s cool.
Ant – I should hope so you picked it.
I flop back on the bed and throw my hands over my eyes. Ugh, hangovers suck Lucifer’s balls.
“Did you get what you needed?” Emi asks.
I nod. Somewhere in my memory is an agreement that Ant would hold onto the poison. Putting all the items I need in one place didn’t seem like a good idea. So I agreed.
Duncan folds his arms. “We’re almost there. Once we get the spell, we end this.”
“How long?” I ask.
“Tomorrow at the latest, until then you can rest up.”
Emi snorts a laugh. “I think not, you owe me and Zee a night out.”
I shield my eyes with my arm. “I can’t face another night out right now.”
