“He was at your hotel? What the fuck did he want?”
Seamus takes a seat on the chair next to the bookcase as he eyes up the new equipment. I still haven’t shown Cara the upgrades I’ve had put in since she suggested it the other day, and I was meant to show her when she got back this afternoon, but I completely forgot.
Leaning my butt on the edge of my desk, I watch him, waiting for him to speak when the door opens and in walks Killian.
“Seamus, glad you could make it. Maybe now Cara can relax.”
Fuck, he’s noticed how quiet she is, and it pisses me off even more. I find myself wondering what exactly Kill thinks. I wonder if he thinks she’s miserable, or if I’m making a mistake?
A hand lands on my shoulder and I look up to see Kill watching me. I’d been so lost in my thoughts I hadn’t even realised he’d moved over to me.
I’m starting to feel like I’m losing control, and I don’t like it. I need to figure out a new way of regaining my control and composure… I’m not sure Cara is ready for what I need… hell, I’m not even sure she’ll ever be ready.
Taking a deep breath, I look at Kill and nod once, letting him know I’m okay.
I turn back to Seamus. “Start talking. You have five minutes and then we need to go back out there.”
Kill stands next to me, arms folded, glancing between me and Seamus. He’s ready to hear what’s going on, but I also know he’s checking I’m okay.
“Da knows she’s here. I don’t know how, he wouldn’t say. He knew she was dress shopping, he’d gone there to grab her, but by the time he got there, she was gone.”
“How the fuck can he know she’s here? I thought you had set everything in motion for it to look like she was running around Europe?” Kill grinds out at Seamus. I can’t seem to find my voice, and I can feel the panic rising. How the fuck can I protect her if I can’t even figure out how to keep her Da from finding her?
“Like I said, I don’t know, he wouldn’t tell me. He’s asked me to help him grab her. He knows she trusts me, so he wants me to make the move then take her to him so he can take her to José. Finn, I can’t risk her life, I need to get her out of here, tonight. She needs to get gone before he figures out that I’m never going to hand her over.”
“No.”
“No? What do you meanno? With all due respect, Killian, she’s my baby sister, you don’t have a say––”
“Shut the fuck up, Seamus. She’s my brother’s fiancée, he’s the only one who has a say in this. Finn, what do you want to do?”
I look from Killian to Seamus and back again, then get up from the desk and walk to the door. Stopping, I turn to face them both. “Actually I’m not the only one who has a say, she has a voice too, and she should be allowed to use it. So, we’re gonna go out there, finish our dinner, then we’re going to talk, all of us. Everyone has a right to know what’s going on, but Cara has a right to make her own decisions.”
The rest of the dinner goes well, and Cara is much more relaxed since Seamus has arrived. I haven’t yet announced the wedding and we need to tell the others about her Da and give her the option.
My hand rubs up and down her back in a comforting motion, more so for me than for her. I feel angry and stressed and out of control.
She leans over and whispers in my ear, “Is everything okay?”
I quickly glance at Kill and Seamus then back to Cara and give my head a little shake.
I look at everyone, making sure they are all paying attention. “We need to talk.”
Chapter 21
When Finn shook his head and said everything wasn’t okay, I could feel the worry bubble in my stomach, and I thought I was going to vomit. Swallowing hard and tensing my body, he continues to run his hand up and down my back, while handing me a glass of water. “Take a sip, princess, and breathe. It’s gonna be okay.”
Once he’s satisfied I’m okay, he takes the glass from me and looks across the table at Killian, and then my brother. “Seamus, why don’t you tell us what’s going on?”
My brother gives Finn and his brother a look, then shakes his head. “Look, I don’t think we should be discussing this in front of the women. We should go to your office, Finn.” He goes to stand but Killian places a hand on his shoulder, stopping my brother from getting out of his chair.
“I told you that everyone has a right to know what is going on, and Cara has a right to make her own decisions.” His voice is low, and a little menacing. I should be scared, but I find myself a little turned on by it.
Seamus clears his throat, then downs the bottle of beer in front of him. “Da knows where you are.”
“I already know this, Finn told me before you got here that he was in New York looking for me.”
“Sis, no… he knows you’re with Finn, and I have been instructed to take you from him and take you to him, tonight.”
