Pillow nest!
The guys used to joke that my room was fit for an Omega rather than an Alpha but I like my space to be comfortable. I got used to hiding in my room at school, because of that I found exactly how I like my environment to be. So what if I had a lot of pillows and too many blankets I was happy and that’s all that mattered. Besides, now it came in handy as I smothered our Omega with everything I could get my hands on.
When basically only her head showed above the pile, I took one last look and decided it was good enough for now. I caught her eye and motioned for her to stay put and try to get some sleep. The last thing we needed was her getting sick on us. She was still recovering from two years of being locked away. I was amazed she lasted so long with those three on a shopping trip. That was something I tried to avoid at all costs.
Shutting the door behind me I pushed up the sleeve of my sweatshirt and prepared to take down a giant. When I got to the room Savo was still sitting on the bed with Bodhi glaring at him from where he leaned against the wall near the closet. Rafael was there as well, hands in his pockets looking between the two Betas who were in some silent war I didn’t understand.
I tapped Rafael’s arm. “What did I miss?”
“How should I know you were the one storming out of here with Cambrie. I had to stop Bodhi from clobbering the man,” Rafael answered. “Care to fill us in on what got you so upset and where you took our Omega?”
“She’s in my room. I got her settled to try and get some sleep before coming back here. I was right, by the way, Marius was too harsh and upset her to the point of crying,” I shared.
This had Rafael glancing out the door as if he would much rather abandon me to deal with the situation and help Cambrie. I raised a hand to stop him from even trying.
“Give her some space, she’s exhausted and I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s conked out or close to it by now. Poor thing pushed herself too far,” I said, then turned my attention to Savo. He’d been watching my hands, and I wasn’t sure if it was out of curiosity or if he understood me. “Why the hell would you think it’s okay to be so casual with an Omega in her own pack’s home?”
“You aren’t her pack yet,” Savo stated. “None of you have marked her so your claim to her is nonexistent. If I was a real prick, like you seem to believe that I am, I would be calling the Care Center to come pick her up.”
Rafael and I both growled at him, sensing the threat in his words. But now I knew he could understand everything I said.
“I didn’t say I was going to, only that I could,” Savo pointed out. “Cambrie is too precious to go to a place like that, but you’re all handling this situation like there’s no possible way someone could take her from you. Until she is marked for your pack by one or all of your Alphas, she can be plucked from your hands in an instant.”
“You better not have said shit like that to her,” Bodhi snapped. “That is the last thing she needs is to feel like her world is falling apart.”
Savo shifted his gaze to look at him. “Your Alpha did a good enough job at that before I ever stepped foot in this house.”
“Then maybe you should leave,” Marius ordered as he entered the room. “If you don’t like how I take care of my family you don’t need to be here.”
“Cambrie asked me to stay and hang out, if she tells me to go, then I’ll go,” Savo announced, crossing his arms, settling in like it would take a bulldozer to move him.
Marius stepped forward but I grabbed his arm, pulling his attention. “Cambrie is in my room, hopefully sleeping. Let's not get into a fight that wakes her up.”
While I was fucking pissed about this Beta’s audacity to speak to Marius that way, I had to admit I was impressed. Not many people can stand to be in his presence when the full weight of his Alpha nature is released. Savo sat there and took it without batting an eye, all because he didn’t want to disappoint Cambrie. That was the part that had me worried. If he became fixated on her this could blow up in our faces.
“I can make you leave,” Marius threatened.
“Actually you can’t,” Savo countered. “Remember the guard needing to get me a pass? Turns out it’s an enforcement level badge. So if you call someone to remove me, it would be me that answered.”
Panic welled up in my stomach. “You can’t, you can’t take her from us, Savo. Please don’t make this a war between us. The only one who will get hurt is her.”
There was a flash of shame before it vanished behind a stony expression. “I just want to say goodbye to her before I leave. It would upset her if I just left, she’s not used to people caring enough to make that effort. Like you said, causing trouble between us will only hurt her, which is the last thing I want to do.”
“Guys…” Cambrie’s trembling voice called out. “I don’t feel so good.”
Rafael was next to her in an instant brushing back her hair to feel her forehead. “You’re burning up, Little One. Tell me what else is bothering you?”
“My skin feels so sensitive. I’m hot, and… and… I’m…” She leaned in close and lowered her voice. “I’m leaking… between my legs.”
Nixon and Spencer just entered the room when she said this and Nixon dropped the bags he was holding staring slack jawed at her. Then it hit me, I’d been too concerned to notice right away but it hit me in the face like a ton of bricks.
Holy fuck,Cambrie was going into heat.
“Get out, Savo,” Marius growled. “Say goodbye and get the fuck out.”
Turning back to the Beta I saw he was still as a stone statue, his eyes were closed and he was gripping the mattress like it was the only thing keeping him on the ground. Slowly with jerky movements he stood and took a breath, then stopped. Opening his eyes he looked at Cambrie, then ran out of the room faster than I ever expected someone his size could. She made a move to follow after him but Rafael’s grip on her shoulders prevented it.
What were we going to do now? There was no way we could leave her, a heat for an Omega can be tortuous when left unattended. In some cases it could cause actual physical pain as they moaned and begged for an Alpha to knot them.
