“I will let Mama and Papa know the plans. You know men—I doubt Uncle Edgar has even mentioned to Papa that you are to come and stay with us while he is abroad.”

“You are right about that,” Louisa agreed cheerfully. “What would men do without us women?” She laughed.

Adalyn reclaimed Bridget and they returned home. When they arrived, Rainey met her.

“My lady, His Grace is here. I thought you should know.”

“Already?” she asked, shocked since the duke wasn’t due for another half-hour.

“He is in the library with your parents,” the butler informed her.

Once Rainey left, Bridget said, “You should go and freshen up, my lady. You want to look your best for His Grace.”

Looking good for him was the least of her concerns. Instead, irritation filled her. Did the man have no idea of proper calling hours? He had called twice on Louisa well before the acceptable hour of calls. And now he was here, far too soon.

“No. I will see him as I am.”

As she marched up the stairs, she decided it was time to have it out with the Duke of Camden.
