“As the Duke of Camden, naturally, I have access to the family jewels. We should go through the entire collection tomorrow and see if there are any which might please you. After all, the Duchess of Camden should always be bejeweled attonevents.”
Adalyn stiffened at the mention of her being the Duchess of Camden. All her insecurities rose again, thinking by wearing the various Camden jewels, many would be looking at her—and finding her inadequate—just as Ev did.
“If you wish,” she said, straightening her spine and raising her chin a notch, trying to look the part of Ev’s duchess.
Without waiting, she went to the door and opened it, continuing to the foyer. There, Bailey was opening the door.
The butler turned and announced, “The Earl of Middlefield’s carriage has arrived.”
“Thank you, Bailey,” Ev said from behind her.
He offered Adalyn his arm and they went out to their friends.
As her husband assisted her into the coach, she realized he hadn’t once called her Addie. He hadn’t called her anything at all.
