Daddy chuckled at the doctors’ response, and my heart fluttered. His accent was not only swooned worthy; his low chuckle was also faint worthy.

“I only want the best for her.” He placed his hands on his hip and lifted a brow.

“We’re going to do the ultrasound now, ok?” I nodded in agreement.

Daddy’s attention was locked on his phone and whatever he was looking at must have been unpleasant. His nostrils flared, and he scratched the edge of his grin in annoyed manner.

His phone vibrated, and he stepped out. His thick strong accent penetrated the air outside the door with every curse word in the English language flowing off his tongue. The doctor continued the exam and proceeded to spread the cold gel all over my bump. The sensation made goosebumps prickle down my spine. A gust of cool air swept through the doorway when he returned, and the doctor turned her attention to him.

“Do you want to hold it?”

He froze and then grabbed the transducer before sliding it over my belly. Whatever conversation he had earlier that upset him was no longer part of the equation because his eyes lit up like the stars as he stared at the babies on the screen. The doctor pointed out the heads and feet of the little bundles of joy on the black and white screen. The room turned silent as his hand gently rolled the transducer around my belly, and the faint sounds of tiny heartbeats filled the air. I grabbed ahold of his other hand and held it tight. He brought it up to his mouth, kissed it, and leaned over to kiss me.

“You’re the father,” I said as I looked into his soft eyes.

He swallowed hard and let out a sigh. I knew I was ruining the moment by bringing up the paternity test, but I had put it off too long, and it wasn’t fair to him. The doctor must have caught our drift because she pulled out her iPad and waited for our eyes to meet.

“Do we need a DNA test?” she asked as her fingers glided across the glossy screen in her hands.

“We don’t,” He said as he held on to my hand.

“Are we sure?” The doctor balanced the iPad on her knee as she turned her attention back to the ultrasound machine.

“Oh, I’m pretty fucking sure, ma’am. Those are my goddamn babies.”

My heart began to race as his eyes glared into mine. His fingers ran down the side of my cheek, and before I could inhale, his lips latched on to mine. He kissed hard and deep like he wanted to steal every single breath I had.

The rideback home wasn’t as bad, the air wasn’t as thick, and Jaimie still hadn’t let go of my hand. He gripped it tight, periodically raising it to his lips. He could tell I had questions; my eyes searched his face for the opportunity to ask.

“Yes?” he asked as his lips brushed against my warm cheek.

“I don’t know you?” I said, letting my eyes slide back to his.

His attention turned toward the front of the SUV, and I pressed my chin into his chest.

“Oh, but you do. You know all the best parts about me.” He wrapped his hands around my waist and pulled me into him. His stubble tickled my face as I buried it into the nape of his neck.

“Do I?” I asked, letting my hands glide up and down my belly.

“Absolutely. You know how I like my liquor, how I like my meat, and how I like my coffee. You know what pisses me off and what turns me the fuck on. You know me pretty damn well, I’ll say.”

I could feel my heart faltering in my chest as he let the words seep into my ear. I knew all those things, but it wasn’t enough for some reason. I wanted to learn more.

“I don’t know your last name?” I said as I lifted, raising my chin to meet his gaze.

He let out a soft chuckle and ran his thumb across my cheek. “Jaimie Theodore Brett.”

He wiggled his brows up and down his forehead and mouthed his name under my breath.

“You don’t look like a Theodore.”

“No? What do I look like?” His thumb found its way past my lips. “Do I look like a man who spent all night eating sweet pussy?”

His words had butterflies exploding through my core, and a sharp tingle headed straight to my clit.

His next sentence made heat creep into my cheeks. I thought with all the commotion of my pregnancy and trying to get me settled he would have forgotten all about my bus. “Because it was more affordable after…” My words trailed off and I turned my attention back to the window.
