“Fucking cops! You think you can take me down?” Miguel shouted as Telman removed him from the plane.
The female agent approached me and Charlie. “I’m Special Agent Hahn.”
I jumped when she placed her hand on my shoulder.
“It’s okay, it’s all over now, ma’am. We have your ex-husband in custody. He can’t hurt you anymore.”
“How do you know who I am?” I muttered.
The agent patted my arm. “We have a lot of information about his life, including yourself and your son. We’ve been investigating Miguel Cortez for a very long time.”
My mind flashed back to the file Emmett had. “Oh, right.”
“Come on, let’s get you out of here. This plane’s a crime scene now.”
Special Agent Hahn helped Charlie and me out of the plane. I was coming down off the adrenaline hit, and my body felt like jelly.
“Olivia!”
As I stumbled, strong arms wrapped around me and I was pulled against a strong body. The familiar scent of ocean salt and cologne assaulted my senses, and I knew I was safe once again.
“Emmett,” I whispered.
“Yeah, it’s me, sweetheart. I told you I was coming for you.” Emmett kissed my hair.
“I didn’t want to go to Columbia,” Charlie said.
I glanced down to see Emmett holding Charlie as well.
“Take us home, Emmett,” I begged.
“Gladly.”
Special Agent Hahn quickly jumped in. “I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you some questions before you can go home. Your statement will help us put your ex away for a long time.”
I lifted my head from Emmett’s chest. “I’m not sure what I can tell you, but okay.”
