I scull down a few mouthfuls of beer, stalling my response. Liv and I haven’t had a chance to talk about all this. We literally just decided to do this together. Before we were fucking interrupted.
“Have you figured that shit out? Are you both gonna lie to him or her, hoping the past doesn’t one day come back around?”
“Fuck, mate.” I set my beer aside and slide my damp palms down the front of my worn jeans. “We just got back together. We need a sec to sort stuff.”
“Yeah, I get it. It’s all new and you wanna screw each other’s brains out, but before you get ahead of yourselves, you need all the facts. And maybe Liv does too.”
I’ve been there for Liv, but can our relationship be meaningful when I’m holding back?
Finn’s right.
Liv took my cold heart and unmistakeably changed it. She cares for me, but that’s the version of me I’ve let her see. One day I’ll have to tell her the truth, and that kills me.
He lays his arm across my shoulders and slaps me twice on the back. “I don’t mean to shit on your parade, but think about it all, okay?”
I nod.
“Because you know who’s gonna test you harder on this shit, don’t you?”
The fucker’s right. When Mum finds out, she’s gonna grill me six ways from Sunday.
“You reckon you and Daynah can keep this shit locked tight until I get a chance to talk to Mum?”
A deep laugh rumbles from Finn. “Sure, but you can’t sit on this for long.”
“Yeah, I know.”
Finn huffs. “Right, so let’s talk about the farm, huh? What’s the plan? What can I do?”
The plan.
He makes it sound so easy. I scull down the last of my beer. “Grow shit, sell shit, keep the bank off my arse.”
After talking things out and making a long to-do list, Finn and Daynah leave as the sun sets.
Waving them off from the porch, Liv leans her head on my shoulder. “They’re the best.”
“Yeah, they are.” I link my arms around her and press a longing kiss to her lips.
She glances up through her long lashes, lust and longing in those captivating blue eyes. I find it hard to breathe.
“Now.” I sigh and settle my hands on the curve of her arse. “Where were we?”
