“Why not?”
“When he told me who his lawyer was, the Managing Partner in his firm, he was pretty shocked when I told him it’s my dad.”
My brain seizes. This douche works with her dad?“Fuck, no.” I struggle to swallow the giant lump in my throat. Liv hasn’t had contact with her dad since the family funerals. She doesn’t want him to be a part of her life moving forward, and I respect that.
She shakes her head with a soft laugh. “Canberra’s a small place.”
I trace my fingers along her collarbones and around to the back of her neck. “No matter what happens, I’m proud of you. You did the right thing.”
Liv sways from side to side, drawing me into the motion. “Dance with me, Jerry,” she whispers. Her words are like salve on my heart, calming a stormy sea of emotion.
I press my lips to hers. “Anytime you want.”
So we dance. Slow and sexy, the pop and crackle of the fire, and the chirp of crickets the only music we need.
“I need to sober up.” It’s time to get my head right.
She simply smiles.
“I’m gonna make this up to you, Liv. And I know where to start.”
“Oh yeah?”
Before she can protest, I sweep one arm behind her knees and support her upper body as I lift her and carry her towards the house.
“Does it involve me being naked?” she whispers in my ear.
My dick swells.
“It most certainly does.”
