They all knew it was true.
“Okay, so what’s your plan?”Joy rubbed her eyes, then looked at Sevan.“You have a really good one, right?I don’t want to lose my only sister, now that I know I have one.”
Sevan’s guts knotted, and for the first time, she doubted she was doing the right thing.
“We do.”Jordan cleared his throat, then very deliberately turned off his recorder.“Nobody freak out, okay?”
“About what?”Walker wasn’t making any promises.Even now that they were sort of on the same side again, Sevan was still sort of afraid of him.He was a lot like his father, if also worlds apart. If he felt she was threatening his woman, or his man, or their child… Yeah, she wouldn’t survive that.
“And definitely don’t kill them, okay?I need them,” Jordan said, then raised his voice to add, “Hey, Van, you can bring our guests out.”
And within a few seconds, the handsome, dark-haired asshole from the diner who’d nearly shot Walker stepped out of the back, escorted by the hulk of a guy they called Van.Jordan must not have turned him over to the authorities with Clive.
Along with them was…fuck her life…Levi Jansen.
Him?Why him?Jordan couldn’t possibly expect her to work with him.
Then again, Jordan probably didn’t know about the time Levi had kissed the shit out her in the clubhouse bathroom, when he’d thought she was a boy.
Maybe Joy was right.Sevan was in over her head.Because she’d wished she could do a hell of a lot more than make out with Levi that day, and every day since.
Tall, blond, blue eyed, calm, and intelligent, the Dutch man was nothing like most of the bikers she’d grown up around—though every bit as lethal. It was also what made him invaluable to Wildfire. No one saw his ruthlessness coming. She’d seen him take out four rival club members by himself in a deal gone wrong.
And that said nothing of what he’d done to her when he’d crushed her, telling her she wasn’t man enough to handle him.Little had he known, she truly wasn’t.
“What the fuck is this?”Walker roared as he shot to his feet, stepping in front of Dane and Arden.“You don’t know what you’re dabbling in here, Jordan.”
Sevan bristled and practically hissed. If she brought trouble to Joy and her family—moretrouble, that was—she wouldn’t be able to live with it.
“Settle down, guys. That’s Ransom and he’s working for me now,” Jordan said.“He’s been partnering with Levi here for nearly two years already.”
Working for…did that mean Levi was a spy?Holy fucking shit.Sevan couldn’t decide if that made her despise the sneaky bastard or if she became even more infatuated with him.
“Chill out.I wasn’t going to shoot you.”Ransom smirked.“I’ve been undercover in the club for too long to screw it up.I couldn’t blow my cover when I knew Jordan wasn’t far behind us.”
Dane flipped the guy off, but Walker was ignoring that bullshit. He asked Jordan, “What do you mean ‘working for you’?I thought you retired.”
“Turns out I have a new job.”He shrugged.
“Yeah, you’re guarding Kyra’s fine ass these days,” Dane said.
“I am.Most of the time. But as incredible as her ass is…” Jordan sighed.“Let’s call this my side hustle.”
Van spoke for him.“His talents are being wasted on my security team. This is a chance for him to do something that matters, to make up for…some shit that went down in the past.”
Sevan narrowed her eyes.Could Jordan be in pursuit of a bit of revenge of his own?Nowthatshe could understand.
“Turns out that although I wasn’t a good fit for the ICE position, there are some ‘unofficial’ missions the government would like to run but can’t.So JWK Consulting has been created and hired to handle their dirty work.”Jordan smiled slowly and surely, and for the first time, Sevan realized that he was a hell of a lot more dangerous than she’d guessed.
She felt like she’d been dumped in the open ocean and sharks were circling closer—Angus, Levi, Jordan, and even Walker.Any of them could bite her in the ass if she didn’t do this right.
“You’re investigating Wildfire for the RICO case?”Walker’s eyes widened.“Jordan, that’s serious shit.”
“I know.”He was solemn.“I lost my partner to this business, remember? In fact, it turns out your father is doing some business with the monsters that got Johnny killed, and I’d like to see them pay for that too.”
Joy clamped her hand on Sevan’s so tight she could see her sister’s knuckles turn white.
Despite that, her mind was made up.Enough resources pooled together might actually have some impact.Finally.This was what she’d been waiting for.Sevan said, “I’m in.”
