“Not happening,” I say, my words growling from my tongue. “I don’t know what you are planning, but it’s not going to happen. Ever.”
He clicks his tongue and shakes his head, responding as if my words are a lie. “You will live a very long time, my pet. I think anything is possible. You have proved it.”
“Enough! Tell us what you have come for, so we can plan for the night. You know that I must travel back to Shadow Moon to check in with the council. They’ll be expecting more humans on the island for the next moon.” Slater straightens his back, towering over the mage.
Surprise washes over me. He’s going back? He never even said anything. A part of me sinks with disappointment. I should’ve known. When was he going to tell me? Maybe that’s why he wanted to have a meeting.
“Which is why I chose to come today. I will assist you with what you need as long as you help me. I need more power.” Theodore rubs his hands together, sending electric light sparkling across his fingers. “What do you say? One bite. One human. I found someone perfect on the trail.”
I blink a few times as realization sinks in. He wants Slater to bite a human. He wants his own lykoswulf. “What? No. We already had a deal.”
Theodore lifts an eyebrow, a wicked smile crossing his face. “Perhaps we can negotiate. Set a new price.”
A part of me wants to agree. Another part of me screams not to.
“One human?” Ravi asks, speaking up.
“For tonight. I will need more later. You know how it goes.” He doesn’t have to explain. I know he’s referring to the fact that barely any humans survive the bite.
I shake my head. “No. Absolutely not.”
“So you’re willing to give me some of your strength?” Theodore looks me up and down, staring at me as if he can see through my skin and into my soul. “I suppose that will do. I will give you until the next full moon to change your mind, but until then, I will be keeping it on the island.”
My heart crashes against my ribcage, and silence fills the air. I realize that Theodore uses magic to keep everyone frozen. It’s enough to get me to nod my head.
“Just do it and leave. Don’t bother us again.” I close my eyes, trying my best to stay calm.
Theodore hums under his voice. “You heard her. Omegas get their strength from their alphas, and you are better fit for my current needs. Come here. You’re mine.”
I snap my eyes open at his comment, my whole body freezing. I can’t move or speak or even scream. Theodore grabs Kellan from behind and restrains him, forcing him to shift into a wolf.
My heart shatters as haze fills the air, swallowing them home.
“Kellan!” I scream, rushing through the haze. But he’s gone.
Theodore took Kellan because he brings me strength.
He took one of the best parts of me—my soul.
My world falls apart.
