“It’s better than okay. I was just thinking...I might regret this, but I’m starting to worry about the others. What if the rest of those assholes come looking?” I lean my elbow in the sand, staring into her eyes. “You have no idea how hard it is for me to stop right now. I want you so fucking bad, but...”

“You’re right. I don’t know what got into me.” She presses her lips together with her words.

I regret my comment immediately. I don’t want her to feel bad. Because really, I don’t. The others can take care of themselves. And I just want to take care of Eliana.

“No, don’t sound like that. This was incredible, and I want more of you. Whatever I have to do to ensure it. Nothing got into either of us apart from the island. It’s as if it wants us to be together.” It’s hard to explain but it’s true. Every event that led up to this moment happened so it could bring us together.

“Evander...we can’t be together like that. This was fun, but...” Eliana swallows and shifts beneath me until I slide off her. “I’m just...I don’t want to get attached.”

Damn. It might be too late for me.

I push the thought away and out of my head. “I get it. You’re right. No attachments. But we can have fun, can’t we?”

She smiles and rubs her fingers along my jaw. “As long as you know. I just…this whole situation is crazy.” She kneels and gets to her feet, offering me her hand.

I grab the shirt with me and help her put it back on. There’s something about this moment that makes me want to shield her from the rest of the world. A part of me wants to deny everyone else the chance to see her sexy body in the way I have. But she just made it clear that I don’t have that right nor does she want it.

I try not to let the disappointment get to me.

She slides her fingers through mine. “Maybe if we get off this island alive.” Shrugging her shoulders, she offers me a smirk.

I bob my head and kick the palm fronds out of the way, guiding her from the small cove between the rocks. “I’d like that. Take you out on a real date.”

Her smirk turns into a full-on grin. “I’d love that. I look forward to it.”

A howl hums through the air, drawing our attention toward the forest.

I spot a grey wolf in the trees, but it backs away and hides in the shadows. Yeah, fucker. I knew it. He was probably watching us the whole time. It makes me wonder if there are others watching too.

Eliana stops and takes a short breath. “Tristan?” she asks, and I realize she’s not staring at the forest any longer. I spot a figure on the beach.

“Tristan!” Eliana yells. She dashes away from me, running toward the others as they come out of the trees. “Chase!”

Fuck me. I shouldn’t be so jealous.

I shouldn’t be a lot of things.

But all I can think about in this moment is how I want to make Eliana mine. I need her to be mine. I don’t think I’ll survive any of this otherwise.

Chapter eleven

Eliana

Fight Together

“THEBODIESAREgone. Are you sure this was where it happened?” Tristan shuffles outside of the cave, searching over the terrain for signs of disruption to the dirt.

“Yes, we’re fucking sure. It happened here. I killed Alicia in this exact spot. She was coming at me, and I threw a knife at her.” Swiveling on the balls of his feet, Evander motions toward another spot. “That’s where Eliana took Hank. He was turning into one of those things...what did you call them?” His eyes meet mine.

“I don’t think Hank was turning into a lykoswulf. He wasn’t anything like Kellan.” And it’s true. Kellan transforms into a beautiful grey wolf. Whatever the fuck was happening to Hank? Not even close. It was more like Jack and Freddy.

“Well, either somebody took the bodies, they weren’t actually dead, or this is the wrong spot. There isn’t any sign of foul play that I can see.” Chase messes with the waistband of his shorts.

There were enough pairs for all of us. Though mine are too big and definitely intended for a guy. Evander’s fit a bit snuggly, showing off the outline of his dick. Chase’s reveal just as much. But at least I’m not as distracted anymore. I can finally find some normalcy with them being partially dressed. There weren’t any other shirts except for the one I’m wearing, which they were fine with. Apart from the clothing, Kellan gave us a bar of soap that we managed to cut pieces off to wash with. I never thought something like that would be such a luxury. What I wouldn’t give for a hot shower.

“Who knows with this island. Maybe it just devoured them. As long as they’re not coming after us again as zombies or something, I think we need to explore more. We should head toward the other camp and see if anyone is still alive.” Davian crosses his arms over his chest.

“I don’t know, man. You didn’t see them. They were savages. I don’t know what the hell happened to them but they’re not the same people who were shouting that we were monsters.” Evander closes the space to me and brushes his fingers to mine, seeing if I will take his hand.
