Micah launches into the air, tugging his flaming sword free, and Dante soon follows, sending black feathers drifting through the air in his wake.

“Get back here, you coward!” Dante yells, his voice muffled by the glass door. “I will teach you the first fucking lesson of this eternity. Raven is mine!”

Chapter 15

Punishment

RAVEN

SOMETHING CRASHES FROM outside the bathroom door, and I quickly shut off the water and grab a towel from the rack. Kase’s snarl shakes the flimsy door. Hot red light glows from the crack at the bottom. Wrapping the towel around me, I rush toward the hallway. I should’ve expected a fight the moment Dante would decide to finally return to the apartment, but it sounds far worse than I could’ve imagined.

“You’ve been gone for two fucking days!” Kase hollers, his voice bellowing through the air. “What if Lucian had decided to drop in? I haven’t even seen Micah. You better not have fucking ruined this for us.”

“He fucking branded her!” Dante shouts, his voice just as guttural and loud as Kase’s. “Do you even care? What if he—”

A body slams into the door, shaking it on its hinges. Kase growls again. “Raven is eavesdropping on the other side of the door, so you better be fucking careful about what you choose to say next. I’m sure Micah’s already put impossible ideas into her mind, and I don’t need your envy to push you into believing in damn miracles, either.”

Damn. I’ve been caught. I was hoping for at least another few minutes of their unfiltered anger to hear what is really on their minds.

“Now get your ass out here, angel-girl. We all need to talk.” Kase knocks his fist on the door. “Hurry your bubble butt up, or I’ll kick the door down. It’s taking everything in me not to put Dante in his place my way.”

I sigh and lock my fingers around the doorknob, tugging it open to confront the two of them. Kase stands in front of the door with his arms across his chest and his lips pursed in anger. Behind him, Dante glowers at the back of Kase’s head and refuses to even look at me. The intensity of their moods digs deeply into my soul, burning me from the inside out.

“Can’t you give me a couple minutes to get dressed?” I ask with annoyance lining my words.

Kase shakes his head. “No. We need to deal with this now.”

Shit.

Pointing, he adds, “My room. Now. The both of you.”

Like he doesn’t think I’ll listen, he snakes his tail from his lower back and laces it around me, tugging me from the bathroom. Dante skulks past us and stomps into Kase’s room. I press my lips together and flick my gaze to Kase, wondering what the fuck this is about. I know he’s just as mad as I am that Dante abandoned us to chase Micah, but I’m nearly certain our reasons vastly differ. Kase hasn’t been his cocky self, mostly zoning out watching TV with me, and he hasn’t hit on me once, not even complaining that I’ve been sleeping in Dante’s sex chambers by myself.

The end of Kase’s tail shifts the front of my towel, and I jump in surprise. Locking my fingers around the smooth appendage, I stop Kase from getting carried away. One look over my shoulder at him shows me he’s no longer in his grumpy-ass mood. Who knew that Dante returning could affect him like this, but I guess when you spend eternity with someone...

“Join Dante’s ass on my bed, angel-girl,” Kase says, nudging me toward Dante.

He sits on the edge of Kase’s bed with his elbows resting on his knees. As much as I want to ignore Kase’s command, I suck up my annoyance for Dante’s sake. I know why he chased after Micah. I know he let his envy over Micah’s mark on my hand get to him. So did the fact that I touched Micah’s wings—wings like the ones on his back and the ones I loved touching. But where he sees the act as something to envy because it was Micah and not him, he can’t comprehend that there was nothing behind my gesture with Micah—not like with Dante.

I shuffle the rest of the way to the bed and sit down beside Dante. Sitting ultra-close, I purposefully press into him, letting his weight ensure no space gets between us. Kase watches us from his spot near the door. His jaw twitches, and he crosses his arms over his chest, narrowing his eyes like he expects me to make the next move.

“Just get it over with, Kase. Show us your wrath, and let me go to bed.” Dante scrubs his face with his hands. “I know I fucked up by leaving, but I’m back now and more clear headed.”

“You think leaving was where you fucked up, Dante?” Kase asks, strolling forward. A smile plays on his lips, his sharp features turning more handsome. “Leaving and chasing Micah is something I get. I’d have done it myself. What I don’t get is where in the fuck you got the idea that Raven is yours.”

“Wait, what?” I ask, pushing to get up.

Kase flicks me back with his tail and plops down, sandwiching me to Dante. “Your soul is ours, angel-girl. If Dante’s envious ass starts claiming you as solely his, there is going to be a huge fucking problem. Neither of us can help it. He’ll start to turn into a little douche toward me, and then he’ll fall to my wrath. You are ours, and he needs a damn reminder.”

I swallow, feeling Dante’s silent intensity as Kase’s words sink in. “You better not be implying what I think you are.”

“Don’t say that like you’re against punishing him for getting pissed off by your honest mistake.” Kase turns and grabs my face. “You even slept in his bed, choosing to stop any progression you and I could’ve had while he was gone. Your soul knows it as much as you do. You won’t have me without him.”

My heart thunders in erratic beats. I hadn’t realized the truth to his words until hearing them out loud as if he reads the warning on my soul. Whatever Lucian did to me, bartering my very being and threatening to split me between the two of them has fucked me up. And I don’t even care. Kase is right. I’ve been lying to myself about the reason I’ve been in Dante’s room. I have missed him. These last two days have been miserable without both of them constantly being within my reach.

“You also crave to show him as much as I do that you will never be his alone, isn’t that right, angel-girl.” Kase runs his thumb across my lips, stretching them with his finger. “That’s why you’re going to kiss me.”

I raise my eyebrows at Kase, wondering where the hell he plans to take this. Dante quietly shifts next to me, the heat of his body warming mine. His soft breath tickles my shoulder as he bows closer to get a better look.
