“You should be, Raven,” Kase says, cracking his knuckles. “What the fuck did I tell you? What was the one rule you were supposed to follow?”
I don’t respond to him, keeping my gaze locked on the angel.
Closing the space to me, Kase towers over me, his muscles rippling. “Answer me.”
Kase grabs my chin and guides my gaze away from the angel until I meet his glowing eyes. Heat radiates between us, and I can’t stop myself from sliding my hand up his bare chest until I clutch his shoulder. Like he can sense my innate need to be in the protection I had no idea truly existed in his arms until this moment, Kase hooks his free hand to my hip and pulls me to him until I’m flush against him. I feel every hot muscle of his body, but especially his raging boner pressing against my stomach through his pants, which is the only thing he wears.
“Don’t make me force you to tell me,” he mutters, his voice low but loud enough that I’m sure the angel can hear. The righteous bastard probably gets off on Kase’s threat of punishment.
My bottom lip quivers as I summon my voice to speak. “You told me not to leave the apartment.”
“And what is the first fucking thing you did the second we gave you a moment of freedom?” he prods, his handsome features sharpening.
“I ran,” I whisper.
Releasing my face only to grab me by the neck, Kase leans into my face and grins. His wicked smile should freak me the fuck out, but I suck my trembling lip into my mouth and inhale shallow breaths of his delectable scent.
“I’m sorry,” I add. “I thought—”
“You didn’t think! You put yourself in unnecessary danger, and for what? To pray for help? To seek divine intervention? And after everything I’ve done for you.” Kase’s nostrils flare, his smile widening with his words. Leaning in even more, he brushes his lips to my ear. “You’re a fucking naughty girl. I want to bend you over the wreckage, tug down your panties, and bang you from behind as that bastard angel watches. A little reward for bringing Micah out of hiding. He’s already hooked, and I hate it.”
I try to remain expressionless under the whisper of his words. If only my vagina didn’t love the sound of his desire enough to turn me on. I never thought I was much of an exhibitionist, but the thrill of knowing that Kase won’t let anything happen to me and feeling the power radiating from him so strongly that the angel stays away—I almost nod my head in agreement.
But if I do? It’ll ruin my plan.
“Please, no,” I say, forcing my voice louder. “I won’t do it again. I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll obey you. Just don’t punish me.”
Kase smirks, raising his eyebrow. “You will obey me as I punish you. Do you understand?”
I lick my lips, drawing Kase’s attention to my mouth. “Yes.”
“You will let me do whatever I want. Your soul is mine.” Kase loosens his hold on my neck and slides his hot fingers into my hair, tilting my head up. “Mine.”
Something crazy intense comes over me like a rush of electricity zinging from my core to travel up to my chest and down my legs until I’m buzzing all over. Standing on my tiptoes, I brush my lips to Kase’s, devouring what it’s like to kiss such power and survive. His hand tightens on my hip, his fingers digging harder into the skin peeking out from the hem of my shirt. I nearly expect him to do what he craves and rip my pants open to screw me right in the middle of the empty street.
He breaks away first and searches my face, his demonic form peeking from his expression. I pant with my building desire. If he didn’t tug my hair, keeping me back, I would kiss him again, harder and more desperately. I’d slip my tongue into his mouth and find out if his kiss tastes as sweet and warm as he smells.
“I’m yours,” I whisper, my voice catching with my words. “I won’t leave again. I’ve learned my lesson. I promise.”
Kase bares his teeth at me, his eyes glowing even brighter with the red light of his power. Scooping me up, he flips me onto his shoulder with a growl. “Promises mean nothing to me, angel-girl. I will determine whether or not you’ve learned your lesson when I’m through with you. You will wish you never uttered a call for divine help. You will wish it was me who you called. I will ensure it.”
I hang limply on his shoulder, acting like the complacent heathen the angel thinks I am. I don’t know what Kase’s plan is exactly, but I know he’s up to something. And who knows? Maybe it’ll be something that could work. Maybe I won’t be screwed after all. At least, not by Hell.
“Raven,” a soft voice whispers through my mind.
I stiffen at the sound of the angel’s voice in my head.
Arching my back, I peer where soft light shines the brightest and spot the expansive wings of the angel.
“This isn’t the end.”
I frown in confusion at the intruding voice.
The angel launches into the air without another word and lights up the night for a second. All that remains are his words swirling through my head. Whether it was a threat or a promise of hope for my eternity? I wish I knew.
Kase carries me away.
