She let out a cry. “Darius!” Despite him giving himself to her over and over again the past few hours, she still needed more.
“Do you want my bite, Eva?” He asked as he plunged into her again. And again. She could hardly control herself. “Give me your promise and I’ll bite you, Eva.”
Another thrust.
“What… promise?” She couldn’t think straight.
“That you’re mine and I’m yours. I need to hear you admit it, Eva. Iknowyou’re thinking it. I can see it in those delicious eyes of yours.”
Another thrust.
She couldn’t admit that, could she? There was a reason she couldn’t give herself wholly to him.
Why couldn’t she remember what that reason was?
Yearning for his bite she told him exactly what he wanted to hear, exactly what she truly believed deep down. “I’m yours and you’re mine.”
He brought his head down to her throat while he started thrusting inside her at a ravenous pace. When his teeth found the vein in her neck and pierced her skin, she lost all control, her body breaking out in unrestrained spasms beneath him.
Ecstasy.
As he continued thrusting inside her, weakening her as he took more of her blood, she suddenly remembered why she couldn’t do this.
In a frenzy, she shrieked with little thought,“I’m going to die!”
His head shot up. He looked down at her with rabid eyes, her blood staining his chin.“What?”
Why did she admit that? Shocked by her own words, she frantically shook her head, snapping her mouth shut. She couldn’t say anything more.
“Eva.What are you hiding from me?”He asked in a rage, his body hovering over hers.
“I… um…”
His fist pounded against the bed beside her. “What thefuckare you hiding from me?”
Judging by his anger, he already knew exactly what she was hiding from him. He probably didn’t want to accept the truth himself.
It took me a long time to accept it as well, she thought to herself. In the end, she realized she had no choice but to.
“Didn’t you hear me?” Her voice cracked. She pushed him away and he allowed her to, falling onto the bed at her side. “I don’t have much longer to live. I’m going to die.” She was hit with the realization that this was the first time she said it out loud, which only made it feel all the more real.
“You don’t know that.” She could hear the quickening of his breathing, panic taking over him. As much as he wanted to deny what she said, they both knew she was telling him the truth.
She was going to die.
“I wish you were right, but my predictions have never been wrong.” That was one of the many reasons behind so many sorceresses hating her. None of them wanted to know the horrible truths their futures held. Truths that always came into fruition. Now it was Eva’s time to hate what she saw. “I’m going to die.” Her lips began to quiver.
“When.” He demanded an answer.
Eva didn’t know the exact date or time, but she believed she didn’t have much longer. “Soon.”
Sadness consuming her, she shut her eyes and looked away. She couldn’t bear to look at him. Not now.
Her attempt to distance herself from him didn’t stop him from wrapping his arms around her and pulling her body against his. He began rocking her back and forth as he pressed his lips against her hair. His gentle kisses provided her with promises of an unending affection she secretly always longed to have.
His kisses provided her with a truth she wasn’t aware of until now.
Darius loves me.
