“If I asked you kindly not to follow me, would you listen?” As much as she admittedly didn’t want any distance between them, she knew it would be for the better. She couldn’t think straight with him so near! Emotions she never experienced in her life were flooding through her, confusing the hell out of her.
“I wouldn’t.” He shot her an irresistible and surprisingly playful smile.
Hesmiled! His smiles were very rare!
Her heart jumped. He’s so sexy when he smiles.“I’ll take that as a no.”
“Can it be taken any other way?”
Eva struggled to control her breathing. His confidence nearly threw her over the edge.
Need to get away from him,she thought, sitting up, flipping off her sheets, and swinging her legs over the edge of the bed. She moved so quickly she didn’t realize how she positioned herself until it was too late. Her legs were trapped between him and the bed, his body leaning in to hers, their faces nearer than they had been before.
“Can you… move?” She asked, her words coming out as nothing more than a whisper.
He inched his body closer to hers, his thighs pressing her knees against the bed. “Nothing you can say will convince me to move right now.” His warm breath brushed across her face.
Eva tried her hardest not to stutter when she spoke next. “I trusted you and you screwed me over. With that being said, how about you find some decency in yourself and leave me alone?”
Please, before I cave, she thought as she looked at his lush lips. So close…
“I think my betraying you proves I don’t have any decency at all.” Even as he said that, she noticed his eye twitch with regret.
Despite what he said, she could tell that somewhere within him, he regretted what he did to her.
Doesn’t change the fact that he did it.
“I guess that makes two of us,” she said as she tried to maneuver her body around his.
He caught on quickly, planting his hands down on either side of her waist, pinning her where she sat. “Ah-ah,” he shook his head. “Do you know how long I waited for you to wake up?”
She never knew how long she slept for after predicting someone’s fortune. No one stayed around long enough to tell her. “No idea.”
“Over twenty-four hours.”
Her mouth dropped. She wasn’t sure if she was more surprised by the fact that she slept for that long, or that he was still by her side when she woke up.
There was no way he remained by her side the entire time.
Could he have?
Curiosity consuming her, she asked, “Were you here the entire time?”
“I needed to make sure you were alright.”
That was an obviousyes. That was also a first. She couldn’t remember the last time someone remained at her side while she was suffering before. That’s because no one has,she thought.
For the first time in her life, she didn’t feel so alone.
He stayed. He didn’t sleep. For me.
Eva shook those thoughts away. She couldn’t grow soft for this vampire. She wouldn’t allow herself to. People died when they trusted others and Eva was a survivor.
“Just let me…” Eva couldn’t finish her sentence. It was pointless. He wasn’t letting her go anywhere. She hated admitting to herself that she didn’twantto go anywhere. “You’re acting as if you care about me.” And it was seriously screwing with her thoughts!
“Nothing about this is an act,Vioi.”
Did he just use a term of endearment on her? What did it even mean? And why did the way he said it send a chill down her spine?
