Zamorra’s breath hitched when Luther straightened, rolling his shoulders back. He was still dressed in the fae silver armour, but the long white hair, purple eyes and high pointed ears were gone. He looked exactly like she remembered.

Neat, slicked back dark hair that was longer in the front than it was on the sides, beautiful dark eyes, full luscious lips and features so sharp and defined they could cut glass.

Absolutely drop dead fucking gorgeous.

“Argh, I feel like I’ve just had my insides electrocuted,” Void groaned, getting to his feet.

Lex shook his head, disoriented, grunting in agreement. Picking himself up, Justin wiped sweat from his brow, exhaling a large, pained breath.

“Alright, get ready. The portal will open any minute,” Luther said, standing tall.

Tension riddled Zamorra’s body. She was beyond ready to go home, but she had a bad feeling. Something she couldn’t shake. Luther seemed to sense her discomfort. He wrapped his fingers around her wrist, pulling her close to him.

Energy buzzed in the air, making goosebumps pebble all over her skin. A spark of purple electricity sizzled two-hundred metres away and then boom, an enormous purple portal hovered a few feet above the ground, purple lightning popping and zapping in every direction like wildfire.

“Go, go, go!” Luther urged, pulling her along at vampire speed.

Her body lurched forward, a faint shriek of surprise leaving her lips. The world whirled around her. It took a few seconds for her mind to catch up with her body; when Luther abruptly stopped a few feet away from the portal, she stumbled, dazed.

The Gold King, Faxon and a squad of silver-armoured fae warriors stood before the portal blocking it, stances strong and swords out.

“Fuck,” Zamorra cursed harshly. They must have been waiting for the portal to appear so they could find them and stop them from leaving.

She knew it wasn’t going to be that easy to leave. Life was never that fucking easy. Not for her.

An evil glint shimmered in the Gold King’s eyes as he stared them down. “Zamorra,” he purred, her name on his lips making Luther snarl aggressively at her side. “Where are you going? We still have so much to talk about.” The gold dagger he used to slice her skin hovered above his open palm, the tip pointing straight towards her like she was a target board.

“What the fuck?” Void hissed. “They’ve got telekinesis?”

Zamorra wasn’t sure if all of them possessed the ability. So far, she’d only seen the gold-armoured fae exhibit the power.

“Whoarethese guys?” he blew out in shock.

Dark magic tainted the air as Justin held his arms out from his body, red lightning dancing around his open palms and flashing in his amber eyes.

The Gold King’s eyes snapped to him. “Take the mage first.”

Red and black fire shot up from the ground all around Justin, encasing him in a protective circle that the silver-armoured fae couldn’t penetrate, though they tried. They blinked in and out of view in rapid succession, trying to get as close to the dark mage as possible. When that didn’t work, Faxon raised his hand in the air, preparing to use his telekinetic power to kill him instead.

Justin spun his hands in a circle, his magic building rapidly, flung his hands toward the sky and brought them down fast, releasing a wave of dark magic that rolled over everyone.

The dagger still hovering in the air over the Gold King’s open palm dropped. He snatched it up and frowned, a confused look on his face. Faxon growled, thrusting his hand towards Justin—but nothing happened.

“I’ve blocked their telekinetic abilities,” Justin said, the fire at his feet giving off intense, burning heat that singed the grass around him. “But I don’t know how long it will last. We need to kill them quickly!”

Well, that helped even the odds a little bit, Zamorra thought.

Void shifted, an earth-shattering roar echoing into the hills as a nine-foot light brown werewolf jumped into the chaos, bits of shredded clothing raining down from the sky like confetti. Lex teleported around the field, striking out at the fae before disappearing to attack from another angle.

Adrenaline bursting in her veins and Zamorra moved to engage in the battle, pulling a dagger from the waistband of her pants, but Luther clamped down painfully on her wrist.

“No. You stay by my side.”

“Luther! We have to help them. We can’t just stand here and watch.”

“I agree. But you stay. By. My. Side. I can’t fight if I’m worried about them taking you again.”

“Fine!” She didn’t want to waste time arguing with him. The Gold King and Faxon stayed planted in front of the portal, but that could change at any moment.
