Void narrowed his eyes. “Am I interrupting something here?” he asked, his voice laced with suspicion.

“No.” Luther stepped back, releasing Ophelia’s hands.

The red-haired vampire sneered. “What’s the dog doing here? I thought we left his ass back in Australia.” She got to her feet, wiping the dirt off her knees.

“You referring to me there, Red?” Void blasted, eyes flashing gold.

“Sorry, I didn’t catch that. All I heard was ‘woof, woof’.”

Void snapped his teeth. He took a threatening step forward and Ophelia hissed in warning, her fangs snapping free.

Luther rubbed his temples, frustrated.

Children. He was dealing with children.

The rays from the beaming sun were beginning to irritate him, his mood plummeting rapidly. He had been out here a lot longer than he had planned and it was starting to affect him.

“Stand down, Ophelia. Now,” Luther commanded.

Anger flashed on the vampire’s face and she scowled at her maker. “You always side with shifters. It’s like you’re one of them now. It’s disgusting,” she hissed. “I feel like I don’t even know you anymore.”

Even though they were outside in the scorching hot sun, the temperature dropped several degrees as Luther glared at his sire, his anger climbing at her insubordination.

Power pulsed from his body and Ophelia immediately lowered her eyes to the ground. Her body shook with fear as Luther’s power smothered the air around her, making it difficult for her to breathe.

Why were his Elite Guards displaying such disrespect towards him? First Maddox, now Ophelia. Did they think he was weak? Were they testing his authority? It could stand no longer. He would make them see his strength and brutality. Even if it killed them.

A savage snarl ripped from his lips as he gripped Ophelia by the throat and dragged her until they were nose to nose, her feet dangling off the ground.

Her green eyes widened in shock.

“This is yourfinalwarning, Ophelia. Watch your tongue, or I will cut it out and feed it to you.”

Ophelia paled.

Luther shoved her away and she stumbled, losing her footing and collapsing to the ground.

“Damn, Lord Douche, someone—”

Luther spun and blurred in front of Void, ramming his claws deep into Void’s stomach. He pierced his flesh with a sickening squelch and the glorious scent of shifter blood tainted the air. “Call me Lord Douche one more time,” Luther whispered darkly, his voice dripping with danger. “I dare you.”

Void choked and gripped onto Luther’s wrist, drenched in his blood. Light brown fur cascaded up his arms, his werewolf close to breaking loose. “Get the fuck out of me,” Void croaked, pain flashing on his face.

Luther was very close to losing his temper, his beast scratching at his skin and demanding more blood. The disrespect he was receiving on all fronts was not acceptable. Enough was enough.

He quickly realised he’d let his feelings for Zamorra alter his actions when it came to her uncle. He allowed Void to talk to him in a way that he wouldn’t allow any other. That was over. No more.

Luther sensed the arrival of another and he turned slightly, keeping one eye on the shifter in his grasp while his peripheral vision picked up Axel and the young human female in his arms.

Finally.

Luther released Void with a rough shove and turned fully, ignoring the angry growl the shifter emitted.

“My Lord.” Axel blurred to his side, keeping a tight grip on the dazed human in his grasp.

It was clear his Elite Guard had already applied some form of his compulsion. To what extent, Luther was unsure.

Luther gripped the human’s chin with his thumb and forefinger, forcing her to look into his crimson eyes. “You’re going to offer yourself to that man over there.” Luther pointed to Lucas, his power of compulsion crawling over the human female and making her nod robotically. “You’re to take him deep into the forest and keep him distracted by any means necessary.”
