Zamorra couldn’t help but laugh. Navi wasn’t a big fan of Luther.

“Luther’s the only one who can get me out of here. You gotta go find him. Or my uncle. Please Navi, I’m begging you.”

Navi huffed. It was clear she wasn’t comfortable with leaving her here alone, but there was no other option. This was the best—no, theonlyplan Zamorra could think of. She was seriously outmatched, especially without her werewolf. There was no way she could break out of this cell and fight her way out of here on her own. She needed backup.

“Will you do it, Navi? Will you find Luther and bring him here?”

Sighing dramatically, Navi nodded.

Exhaustion creeped up on her and Zamorra sagged against the wall, her energy all but depleted. Her mind and body needed rest, but she wasn’t sure if she could just shut off like that. She was in a hostile environment, enemies around every corner.

If she could talk to her werewolf, she knew what she would say.Take the time to rest when you can. So you’re ready when the time comes.

“I’m gonna try and get some shuteye. If you hear anyone coming, wake me.”

Navi nodded, her face set in determination.

Zamorra reached out and offered her hand to Navi. The pixie flew forward, landing softly in her palm.

“I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done. For following me despite the danger. For having my back no matter what. Without you, I think I’d be royally screwed here…more than I already am.”

Navi touched a hand to her heart and smiled. Her tiny wings beat rapidly and she flew into the air.

Leaning her back against the wall, Zamorra sank to the ground, bringing her knees to her chest. Wrapping her arms around her legs and resting her head, she closed her eyes and waited for sleep to come.

Startled,Zamorra awoke, a strong tingling sensation spreading across her face. Navi hovered a few feet in front of her, a cloud of green pixie dust surrounding her and magic dancing on her fingertips. She pointed to the cell door, urgency vibrating around her.

Footsteps reached Zamorra’s ears and she jumped to her feet, keeping her eyes locked on the iron bars. “Hide, Navi. And remember, the second the force field is down, you go. Find Luther,” she whispered.

The pixie nodded and vanished from sight just as Barnabas stopped in front of her cell.

His silver hair shone brightly, like a halo under the light above his head (which Zamorra found ironic, considering what a devil he was). His blue eyes sparkled with anticipation as he stared at her, his lips curling into a dark smile.

Iris stepped out from behind his body, her head lowered.

“Hello, youngin. Miss me?” he grinned, retrieving a key from his pocket.

Zamorra glared. “About as much as someone would miss a case of haemorrhoids.”

Barnabas gasped, placing a hand over his heart. “Ah, you wound me, my darling daughter.”

Rage pounded through her, her body heating and blood boiling. “You. Are. Not. My. Father,” she snarled.

“Oh, I am. And I’m here to prove it to you. Iris?”

The light mage lifted her head, her face devoid of emotion. She looked tired, with huge bags under her brown eyes and her skin as pale as a ghost. She raised her arm, her hand shaky and glowing white.

The force field protecting the cell flashed and blinked out of existence.

Zamorra worked hard not to react, to keep her eyes plastered to the bastard in front of her instead of looking around for Navi. She had to keep her cool. She just had to hope the pixie listened to her and made her escape to find Luther. She was her only chance.

Iris took the key from Barnabas’ open palm and opened the cell doors.

Barnabas strolled in like he was the bloody King of England or some shit, an air of righteousness wafting off him. One of his werewolf lackeys walked in after him and placed a chair in the middle of the cell. He stepped back and stood guard at the door.

Zamorra eyed the Alpha shifter with mistrust as he sat down, Iris moving to stand behind him. He clicked his fingers and another one of his men came in carrying a tray filled with food, placing it in Barnabas’ hands. He removed the cloche covering the food and the scent of lamb and vegetables reached her nose, making her salivate instantly.
