Void looked at her fondly, warmth in his eyes as he chuckled softly to himself. He lowered himself to her height, a smile on his face.

Zamorra gripped his cheeks with both of her tiny hands, smushing them together while she stared into his eyes. A flash of gold went through his brown irises, his werewolf showing himself to her and she giggled.

"Do you like your present, uncle?"

Void raised his arm in the air, cheeks still gripped tightly between Zamorra's little hands. "It's the best present I've ever gotten."

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

The blaring of a car horn ripped Zamorra from a memory she had completely forgotten about. It had been buried so deep in her subconscious but came tumbling back to the surface the first time she got a glimpse of that stupid silver scrunchie around Void's wrist.

It had been years since she thought about any of the original supernatural’s. Each species had one and it was from them that all supernatural’s stemmed. Her mother used to tell her stories late at night about them. They were rumoured to have extraordinary powers, more powerful and destructive than anything anyone had ever seen before. Some say they came here thousands and thousands of years ago through a portal, similar to a transportation portal, only from another dimension. She wasn't sure if she believed that. The supernatural was one thing, but different dimensions? She couldn't get behind something like that without solid proof.

"I'm telling you, you're going the wrong way," Void sang, eyes staring out the window as his hand moved up and down in the wind. That silver scrunchie sat snugly around his wrist and she couldn't help but chuckle.

When she asked him why he needed it, he said that it was his good luck charm, and he couldn't go on a mission without it. It did surprise her that after all these years he still had it, it surprised her even more that he continued to wear it like a badge of honor.

Maddox frowned, looking at Void through the rear-view mirror. "The GPS says I'm going the right way."

"You shouldn't listen to that thing. What if someone's hacked it and they're leading us straight to our death?"

Zamorra rolled her eyes, listening to their conversation with only mild interest. Luther had taken a separate car to them, with Darius as his driver. She tried not to overthink it, but of course her brain wouldn't allow that. Every time they needed to go somewhere, she and Luther always went in the same car. But now, that had changed. She already decided to confront him on it, figure out what exactly was lodged so far up his ass to make him act this way. It was just waiting for the right time to do it. Timing was everything.

Void nudged her in the ribs, whispering softly "Why do you look so grumpy?"

"It's because she's stuck in the B car with us instead of being in the A car with Luther," Maddox answered for her.

Void grumbled. "I don't even know why he needed to take a separate car anyways. What, he's too good to ride with us or something?"

"He always likes to leave first so we're the ones left cleaning up whatever bloody mess he's left behind," Maddox replied, annoyed. He inclined his head to a dark SUV as he parked behind it. "See, told you. Right way."

Switching off the ignition, he turned in his seat to look at Zamorra. "I wouldn't get your hopes up about him either if I were you. He jumps from woman to woman faster than a john circling through $2 hookers. He won't ever care for you, he's incapable."

Zamorra frowned. There was a certain level of bitterness tainting his words, an air of resentment she had never felt from Maddox before. It confused her a bit.

A knock on the window startled her and the door opened, revealing Luther. "Everything okay?" He asked, eyes darting between her and Maddox.

She smiled tightly. "Everything's fine. We here?"

He stared at her briefly before stepping back, giving her room to get out. "Yes. His house is a few blocks over."

Void walked out from behind the car, face hard. "You're sending her in there on her own?"

Sighing in annoyance, Luther replied, "The house is warded against intruders."

"So? You've got no clue who or what is in there, you can't just-"

"Uncle!" She hissed, embarrassed. "Quit it." This was exactly what she was talking about. Even as an adult her uncle still found the need to be incredibly overprotective with her.

Zamorra looked at Luther. "What's the plan?"

Luther glared angrily at Void for a moment before answering. "You have to get him out of the house. I need to question him. If we can't get in, you need to bring him to us."

Zamorra nodded. "I can do that." Blowing out a breath, she turned to look down the quiet, empty street.

It was dark, the only light illuminating the area coming from a few flickering lamp posts cemented into the ground. Two vampires blurred in front of them, the speed of their approach making the wind blow her hair back over her shoulders.

"Sire," they said simultaneously, bowing at the waist.
