Zamorra took a deep breath in and closed her eyes, breathing in his familiar scent. It enveloped her like a security blanket, comforting her and soothing the ache in her chest. A low purr vibrated from his chest, his werewolf offering his comfort too.

"I'm still mad at you," Void whispered into her hair. "But I understand." He squeezed her tightly before he stepped back. He narrowed his eyes at Luther. "I don't suppose you'd be willing to void the service?"

"No."

"Worth a shot."

A phone began to ring and Luther reached into his jacket, pulling out a sleek black iPhone. Her eyes snapped to the device like an addict on crack.

"You-you have a phone," she said in shock.

"Of course I have a phone. It's the 21st century. Who doesn't?"

"I don't," she snapped. "Why haven't I gotten one yet?"

Luther frowned. "You never asked." He brought a finger to his lips, gesturing for her to be quiet as he answered. "Speak."

"That is the rudest way to answer a call," she muttered under her breath.

Luther smirked before giving his full attention to whoever was on the other end. After a few minutes he hung up, an angry look on his face. "We need to go."

"Go? Go where?"

"Home."

She frowned, watching him walk towards the door. That didn't sound good.

Void clapped his hands together. "Alright, let’s go."

Luther stilled, one hand reaching for the doorknob. He turned slightly. "I don't recall inviting you."

"If you think I'm going to leave my only niece alone with you, you're in for a rude awakening, fanger."

The tension that had slowly been dissipating between them skyrocketed all over again. Zamorra blew out a frustrated breath. It didn't take much to reignite the hostility between the two of them. "Uncle-"

"No," Void snapped. "There's no way in hell I'm letting you go into vampire territory without me. You can forget it. I wasn't there for you when you needed me most and I was too afraid I would lead Barnabas straight to you if I came for you. I'm not abandoning you again. Not with him so close by."

Zamorra sighed. She forgot how protective he could be. "I really-"

"Fine," Luther cut in. "You can come. But if you harm any of my men or residents, I'll rip your still beating heart right from your chest and eat it."

Gold flickered through Void's brown eyes. "Didn't your mama ever teach you it's dangerous to threaten a werewolf?"

"It wasn't a threat. It was a promise." Luther reached forward and opened the door, looking her way. "We need to go. Now. There's another body."

* * *

"Thisis where you've been staying? No wonder you pledged servitude." Void murmured, staring at Luther's mansion in awe.

Luther parked in the driveway and the front door immediately swung open, his Elite Guards spilling out onto the front lawn like they had been summoned. Everyone except for Axel.

They all got out of the car and headed over to them.

Void leaned down to whisper in her ear. "They look like a friendly bunch."

"They are. For the most part. All except one."

"Let me guess. The red headed bombshell looking at you like you just ate her cat?"
