Yes, she technically was. But she was enjoying the vampires company. He was funny and she liked watching him squirm.

He is funny, but Luther may need us.

Luther. At the mention of the powerful, ancient vampire she retreated. She shifted and gave control back to Zamorra.

Zamorra raised her head and blinked, the world shifting back into focus.

Darius stood in front of her, eyes wide. The cool breeze on her bare skin reminded her she was naked. And he was staring right at her boobs.

She rose to her feet, a blank look on her face. “You act like you’ve never seen a pair of boobs before.”

Darius smirked and gestured to her chest. “None that look like that.”

She rolled her eyes and turned around, heading for her clothes. She could feel Darius tracking her every move, but she didn’t care. She wouldn’t cover herself. This wasn’t the first time someone had seen her naked after a shift.

Her clothes were exactly where she had left them, and she quickly slipped them back on. Darius joined her at her side, and they made their way back to the mansion.

“Your wolf was pretty badass,” Darius commented as he led her to the main gate. Apparently, she missed that earlier.

Zamorra glared at him. “Werewolf. Unless you need to see the difference again?”

“No, no. That’s quite alright,” he gulped. She couldn’t help but chuckle at his quick response.

They walked the path slowly, taking their time. Zamorra decided to take advantage and ask some of the questions floating around in her head.

“So, how long have you been here?” She was curious about him and the other vampire Elites. How they came to be with Luther, Regent of bloody Australia and how they became vampires. Those were always interesting stories. She was hoping to gain a little inside info on the people she would be living with for the next five years.

“About 50 years, give or take,” he replied. “I was drifting through town when I met Boss Man in an underground poker game.”

“Underground poker?” Zamorra asked, intrigued. “That’s awesome. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play poker.”

“I could teach you strip poker? It’s waaay more fun,” he suggested seductively, waggling his eyebrows.

Zamorra shook her head, chuckling softly. “You’re relentless.”

He smiled. “Only for you, sweetheart.”

She highly doubted that. He seemed like he just hit on anything that moved. Male, female, vampire, shifter, whatever. “So, how did you meet our almighty Lord?”

Darius bit the inside of his cheek and leaned down, whispering “I tried to cheat him.”

Zamorra gaped. “You what?”

“It wasn’t intentional,” he winced. “I didn’t know he was bloody Regent. It’s not like he introduced himself before the game or anything - came up and said ‘hi, I’m in charge of every vampire in Australia, so make sure you don’t do anything suss,’ or anything like that and I didn’t exactly ask who he was either. I didn’t need to know whose money I was about to steal. I played a few rounds and with a bit of sleight of hand, I won a couple hundred thousand and then left. He tracked me down.”

“He knew you cheated?”

Darius nodded. “He gave me a choice. Pledge my Servitude or die.”

“Ouch. That’s harsh.”

“Eh. It was a 25-year pledge. 25 years is nothing in the life of a vampire.” He raised his arm into the air, showing her the inside of his wrist. “The brand faded after the Service ended and I’ve been here ever since.”

“You chose to stay?” She asked, surprised. She hadn’t expected that.

“Yes. Better than leading a life on my own. That’s what was in store for me if I left House Darkova.”

Not all vampires had Houses, it was something only reserved for royalty really. Normal, everyday vampires didn’t have the status to form Houses, so they usually joined someone else’s, depending on where their loyalties lay. It was like having a private group of people who were willing to do the bidding of the leader of the House, aka Luther.
