She shrugged.

“Oh please. You came apart in my arms countless times. You were calling my name so loud, I’m sure the entire city heard you.” The mere thought made me yearn for a repeat performance. Maybe right now would do.

Her cheeks bloomed when she cast her gaze down. Of course, I was getting hard in her presence.

“Morning wood. Ignore it. What I want to know is why you keep lying to yourself? Don’t you want to see where this goes?”

“I thought you hated me?”

I thought so too, but now I wasn’t sure. The reasons kept floating away whenever I tried to grasp them. “If we are to keep up with this pretend relationship, don’t you think we shouldn’t dwell on the past.”

“Really?” she crossed her arms. “You, the one who keeps re-litigating it.”

My gaze went to her breasts that had risen when she folded her arms. “We should at least see this thing through.”

“Why now?”

“It’s the perfect time. It’s Christmas. Well, boxing day. Everyone is out enjoying time with their families. No one will bother us.”

She frowned. “What’s that?”

“Boxing day? Day after Christmas. It’s a holiday.”

“Not where I come from. Is this another one of the Reid family quirkiness? Celebrating holidays no one else celebrates.”

“It’s a worldwide holiday. Well, except America.” The conversation was running away from me. “Thing is, we should be together, seeing what this,” I pointed to her and then me, “is.”

“Are you saying you want to give us another shot?”

“I’m saying, don’t you think we’ve wasted too much time dancing around each other’s arousals.”

She bit her lip. My heart thudded as I waited for her answer. It felt like the most important wait of my life, which was silly because this was about sex. Just good sex, nothing more.

She removed her coat and put it back in the closet. “Fine.”

I smiled and balled my hands into fists to avoid jumping her in a hug, or kiss, or whatever this emotion that was swelling inside me wanted me to do.

“First things first.”

“First thing you need to do is put on some clothes.”

“I think you need to take them off.”

Her gaze lit up, and I knew I had her. But should I satisfy her then? No. She was the one who pulled the strings last night. It was now my turn.

“On second thought, let me take a shower. Did you take one?”

“Yes. You sleep like a baby.”

Only after sleeping with you. But she didn’t need to know that. I was the one who woke up first when I was with other women. Hell, sometimes I didn’t even sleep, but when I was with her, I felt comfortable. It was funny I had forgotten that part about us.

“Right. Let me get on mine while you order whatever you want for breakfast.”

“It’s noon.”

“Already?”

She nodded.
