“Okay,” she said, slowly shaking her head. “Just keep in mind what you said and that I did warn you.”

“Spit it out, Toni,” I said through a chuckle.

She smiled and sucked in a deep breath. On the exhale, she said, “Sleep with a Dragonborn.”

I stopped breathing. My ears became plugged, and I wasn’t sure I had heard her correctly. “Come again?”

“You heard me,” she said.

“I can’t,” I said, voice barely above a whisper.

Dragonborns were the forefathers of witches. Without dragons sharing their magic, we wouldn’t exist. So, it made sense that sleeping with a Dragonborn would grant the necessary bump in power to perform a ritual of the caliber I needed to find Avery, but Dragonborns were hard to come by, and the only ones I knew of were Noah and Avery.

“You have to if you want to find your friend,” she said. “Otherwise, I can’t help you.”

I shook my head. “There has to be another way. One that doesn’t require me to sleep with my ex-boyfriend.”

“Savannah, my loving sister, you are powerful,” she said, standing up and approaching me. Keeping her eyes on mine, she held out her hands to me. I gripped them, and she pulled me up to stand in front of her. “You are one of the most powerful witches in this coven if not the whole world.”

“That’s an overstatement,” I muttered.

“Hey,” she said. “I have an instinct about this.”

“But—”

“No buts. You’re ready,” she said.

No pressure.

I let out a deep breath and nodded. Toni was great about providing comfort. Her pep talks helped a lot of us sisters when times were difficult. She was right, though. And if I wanted to avoid letting Noah be self-sacrificial, I was going to have to go through with it.

“Yeah?” she asked.

I nodded. “Okay. Yeah.”

“Good girl!” she said, pulling me into her. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” I said, breathing in her scent.

“Want me to help you break the news to them?” she asked.

I stared at her, confused. “What do you mean?”

“The girls had escorted the men here. I had it all arranged and ready to go for when you arrived.” She smiled.

Toni never ceased to amaze me with her foresight.

I pulled her into a deep hug. “Thank you.”

“Thank me later,” she said. “We have a ritual to prepare for. Your men are waiting for you in the lounge.”

I nodded and headed to meet with them. I tried not to take my time, but I didn’t want to rush things either. There was something in the way Toni had called the guys my men. That made my heart skip a beat and then rush to catch back up. I had been so busy trying to make it through the case without falling back into Noah’s arms, that I hadn’t thought about a relationship with any of them, much less all three.

But now that I was thinking about it, I felt a rush. It was a way to keep all three of them with me. A way where I could avoid saying goodbye to any of them.

Once I arrived at the doorway of the lounge, I took a few seconds to myself to collect my thoughts and prepare for a conversation that was certainly going to be rocky.

I stepped through, and I immediately jumped in. “Okay so here’s the thing. I have to sleep with a Dragonborn to have enough power to do the ritual myself. That is the only other way to do this before Noah sacrifices himself.”
