“Don’t worry about me, Savvy,” Noah said.
“Stop calling me that,” I said and headed out the door.
I hoped, when I got inside her apartment, I could find something as to where she had gone or why they had taken her. But beyond that, I sincerely hoped she was still alive.

NOAH
I sat on the edge of the bed—rather, what the hotel considered a bed—and stared at the clock as the silence settled in the room. The mattress was far too firm and probably made from chunks of cement. The air was difficult to breathe. Each inhale brought with it a thick odor that was hard to ignore. The scent reminded me of bleach and other cleaners used to mask whatever the business was trying to cover up because the room was hardly clean. That much was apparent by the stains that littered the archaic wallpaper plastered on the walls.
The air was also filled with a deep tension that settled on my shoulders and made things all the more uncomfortable.
All in all, I wouldn’t even had rated this joint a single star. Zero stars. Did not recommend.
Savvy really owed me one for this.
I had sensed Savvy’s partner and her boss weren’t so keen on giving me some alone time with her and I wondered why that was. They didn’t know me, much less what Savvy and I had. Maybe if they did, they would have a reason.
Then it dawned on me.
They had feelings for her too.
Their attempts to keep me from Savvy only presented a small challenge to me. Big or small, it didn’t matter, when a challenge came to me, I was going to face it head-on.
And conquer it.
Otherwise, my name wasn’t Noah Tempest.
I cast my gaze toward Detective Abadi who sat at the small round table in the corner of the room, right next to the single, large picture window. He took turns staring out the window and checking his phone.
I wondered what she saw in him. What did he think he had to offer to the woman I loved but couldn’t keep? I was sure her boss was making moves on her. Making tiny gestures to keep her close and hint to her that he wanted more than just a coworking partnership.
I had a plan to make her mine and prove to the both of them they were out of her league. But in order for my plan to work, I had to play my cards right.
Patience wasn’t exactly my forte, but the last thing I wanted was to ruin my only shot at getting Savvy back. So I was going to do whatever I needed to just to make sure she fell back into my arms.
I smirked to myself. She hated my nickname for her. But it suited her. I loved it. And, admittedly, I got a small kick out of seeing the rise of frustration from her. I knew better than to believe she didn’t like me using that name. She loved it when I was deep inside her, making her orgasm.
After half an hour of nothing but silence, I picked up the TV remote and started flipping through the channels. I wasn’t much of a person for television, but the silence and the tension were becoming rather unsettling. I needed entertainment. In whatever form I could get it in.
“You would think hotels would have better viewing options by now,” I muttered.
“Hrmph,” Detective Abadi said. “Sorry, this place isn’t up to your standards. They were all out of rooms at the Ritz.”
I chuckled. “Such a shame. The pool there is fantastic.”
“Awesome,” he said, though I couldn’t ignore the level of sarcasm that filtered through the word.
“Have you been there?” I asked.
He settled his non-enthusiastic glare on me. His expression was his only answer.
“I’ll take that as a no,” I said and tried to get settled on the uncomfortable mattress. When that didn’t work, I huffed and settled my attention on Savvy’s partner.
I couldn’t help but think he desperately needed to get laid. Maybe releasing some of the tension he had built up would make this little arrangement of ours a little more enjoyable. But who was I kidding? It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out he was also gunning for my Savvy. That was apparent when he first entered the room. The way he looked at her stirred my possessiveness a little too much.
Sex with anyone but Savvy, I was fine with. But I wasn’t okay with the idea of him laying a finger on her. But Savvy didn’t belong to me, as much as I had wanted it to be that way. I screwed up and pushed her away. I’ve regretted my actions ever since.
