“There’s more,” I added.
“You will want to listen to this part,” Liam said.
Jacob stopped pacing and leaned over the front of the couch, bracing himself up with his arms.
“They somehow not only managed to block my magic, but they were able to drain me of my energy and power.”
Noah stood up. “Are you freaking serious?”
“How is that possible?” Jacob asked.
“That is the million-dollar question,” I muttered.
I returned my attention to my steaming mug of coffee and picked it up, taking another sip.
“So, this anonymous group of yours not only managed to kidnap my sister, leaving no evidence of the event behind, but they are also somehow able to zap you of all your power and block your magic from being used.”
“Yup. That sums it up,” I said then took another sip. I desperately wanted the coffee to work. It hadn’t yet.
“You will never go anywhere alone again. Do you hear me?” Jacob demanded.
I quirked an eyebrow at him. “Yes, DAD, I hear you.”
“So far,” Liam added, “all we have is what we know. We still need to figure out why they are branching out to shifters now, figure out where they are keeping Avery, and we’re fighting against a ticking clock while we are at it.”
“Not to mention the simple fact that they seem to be able to take out powerful witches like Savannah while they’re at it,” Noah added.
I studied him as he stood from his chair and turned for the door. He stopped just a few feet from it and clutched his hair into his hands.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
He dropped his hands and faced me. “Tell me the truth, how likely are you able to find her?”
I shrugged. “I don’t have an answer for you.”
“Of course not,” he said, chuckling under his breath. The sound lacked all sense of humor.
“I do promise to do everything in my power to find her. However long it takes,” I added.
“Yeah,” Jacob said, “but until we know why the group is branching out to shifters, how they are able to block your magic, finding her before it’s too late doesn’t look so good.”
I glared at him.
“Thanks for keeping it real, man,” Noah said.
Jacob nodded.
Noah sat back down in the chair, leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees. He avoided my gaze as he said, “So, what do we do now?”
“We need to figure out where they took your sister,” Liam said. “And yesterday.”
“I think a location spell could work, but there isn’t much promise to it if they can block my powers.”
Noah nodded, still not meeting my gaze.
“But if they can block your powers in person,” Liam added, “there is no guarantee that it will work otherwise.”
“It’s worth a shot, though,” I said, defending myself.
