“Anything else?” I growled out and then cleared my throat.
She smiled. “That’s it. For now. Can I go? I have a party to get ready for.”
I huffed and waved her off. “You’re losing your touch, Michaela. Especially for two hundred bucks.”
“And I highly suggest you don’t bite the hand that feeds you information, Liam.” She stood up and sauntered off. Her voice echoed back as she added, “This tap can dry out at any moment.”
I shook my head as I glanced after her. That woman had never let me down before. Guess it was a new pattern taking hold in my life.
After taking several moments to calm down, I texted Savannah to call me the first chance she got. I was going to have to dig even deeper than Miss Michaela could go.
Thirty minutes passed with no response. That wasn’t like her.
I called her again only to end up at her voicemail message. This time, I left one.
“It’s Liam. Call me as soon as you get this. It’s important.”
I ended the call and waited.
Five minutes… seven minutes… ten minutes… All with no response or call whatsoever.
Then my phone buzzed. I pulled out my phone and hit the answer button. It was Jacob, and he only confirmed what I had already known.
Savannah was late checking in.
I hung up with Jacob and called her again. Still no answer.
I stood up and started running and started calling her phone repeatedly as I made my way toward Noah’s address. After the constant rings to voicemail, I was getting worried. I picked up my pace and made it to the lobby with no change in contacting Savannah.
Things inside me were stirring. I wanted to shift, but that would most certainly draw too much unwanted attention to myself.
I bypassed the main lobby and headed straight for the elevators. I had done my homework on Noah and learned where he lived on top of other not so useful information. Which was exactly why I had reached out to my source. Still, I continued to rush to Noah’s apartment. Once the elevator doors opened, I heard the sounds of a battle, which made me run faster. When I arrived at the door, I knew the sounds were coming from inside Noah’s apartment.
I kicked the door open and ran inside to find three shadowy figures kicking the living shit out of Savannah. She was on the floor and not moving. I sucked in a breath as my anger took control. A steely scent filled the air and prickled my skin. My urge to protect her kicked in and I joined in on the fight.
I launched myself at the first one, knocking him off balance. The other two’s attention was put on me for a split second. I caught sight of Savannah’s face. She was pale and bloodied up pretty badly.
I growled and beat the first one to a pulp. Once I was certain he wasn’t going to be getting back up for a while, I headed for the next two.
They had made the worst mistake of their lives picking on my Savannah. One they were going to pay for dearly.

SAVANNAH
At some point, I had started to come to. Liam crossed in front of my vision, filling me with waves of relief. I would join him since he evened up the fight, but I was worried I was too hurt to keep going.
Still, I couldn’t let him get hurt. Though by the looks of it, he was handling things well enough on his own. I wouldn’t forgive myself if he got hurt trying to help me.
I dug deep, deep inside myself, and tapped my reserved strength. It gave me the will to stand up and keep fighting. But by the time I stood up, the fight was over. The shadow figures left just as bloodied and broken as they had made me.
I smirked, though the movement caused a burning, stabbing pain to enter my face.
Liam turned around and settled his worry-filled gaze on me. I took a deep breath, and I lost the last of what remained of my strength. Liam called out my name, but his voice sounded distant and muffled.
I tried to keep myself awake. I needed to tell him what was going on, what I had discovered, and what clues I was able to find. It would have been a very short conversation, but I couldn’t bring myself to breathe a word. Talking required more energy than I had available to me.
Sometime later, a sense of weightlessness surrounded me followed by warmth. I figured Liam was carrying me.
