I haven’t stopped thinking about him since I left him. If I go back, though, will he be happy to see me? He didn’t ask me to come back. There might have been sparks between us, there may have almost been a night of passion between us, but for all I know, that was all the man was interested in. If I go back and—
“Becca.”
The voice comes from behind me. I’m so shocked that I let out a loud gasp. When I look over my shoulder and see Adrian walking up to me, my heart somersaults.
He’s here.
He’s actually here!
“Adrian,” I say, scrambling up and rushing to meet him. He opens his arms and I leap into them, burying my face in the crook of his neck.
“Hey, sweet girl,” he says, holding onto me tightly. “You don’t know how good it is to see you again.”
After hugging for a solid minute, he lowers me down onto my feet and I stare up at him in awe.
“You found me,” I say.
He nods. “You told me you’d eventually end up here. I tried to find you sooner, but I guess you were always just a little ahead of me.”
“I can’t believe you drove all that way.”
“Every mile was worth it.”
My heart flutters. “I’m so happy you’re here. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you, Adrian. I really haven’t. I think I…” I swallow. I’ve never said the words I’m about to say, and it’s scary, even though it’s how I feel. “I think I love you.”
Adrian’s eyes penetrate me. “There’s no doubt in my mind, Becca. I love you, too.”
I start to feel dizzy again. “How is this going to work, though?”
“You can come live with me. Or if you don’t want to do that, we’ll find someplace new.”
“You make it sound so easy.”
“That’s because it is.”
I realize he’s right. I don’t have anything tying me down. And I loved his town. I loved his house. His fields. The idea of moving there to be with him might have seemed ridiculous before, but now that he’s asking me, it no longer seems so crazy after all.
“Okay,” I say. “I like the sound of that.”
Adrian cups my chin and dips his mouth down to mine. Desire roars through me as he kisses me, and everything in this moment feels perfect. As our kiss deepens, I run my hands up his chest and tug at his shirt needfully. My body is on fire for him.
“Take me somewhere, Adrian,” I murmur.
Chapter Six
Adrian
“And how many nights will you be staying with us, sir?”
“At least two,” I say. “But we may extend that.”
“Very good.” The receptionist types something into her computer and then slides two hotel keys into a little sleeve and holds them out across the counter. “You’re in Room 203. Enjoy your stay.”
Becca is already smiling at me when I turn to hand her the keys.
“We might stay longer, huh?” she says.
“Just keeping our options open,” I say, grabbing her bag for her. We walk over to the elevators, and as we wait for one to come, I rest my hand on her lower back. I can’t wait to get her upstairs, can’t wait to finally make her mine.
