“Grey, I’m so sor—”
Rage coursed through my veins and I lunged at him, swinging wildly. He was so much bigger and stronger than me, so he was dodging all of my punches.
“Yeah. Keep fighting me.”
Every time he pushed me away from him, I ran at him again. He grabbed my wrists, gaining control of my whole body. I wasn’t able to swing until he released me again.
“You’re not mad at me, Grey.”
My chest heaved up and down because of the adrenaline flowing through my body.
“Yes, I am! How could you say that to me?”
I lunged at him again, but he caught my fists again, pissing me off even more.
“You swinging on me, Laila Ali, but couldn’t swing on your fucking cousin and she was fucking your nigga,” he taunted me, and he pushed me back.
“Agghhh!” I screamed.
“Yeah, scream. Get that shit out, because after this we ain’t talking about that nigga no more! Do you understand me?”
I lunged at him again, giving him two to his stomach instead of his face and when he went to block his stomach, I caught him with a two-piece: one to the jaw and one to the mouth. As soon as I connected the second time, I inhaled sharply and backed away from him. I froze, waiting on him to strike me back. If he was going to run over his baby mama, then he would definitely kill me. My chest was getting tight from holding my breath.
When he raised his hand and I jumped, but he massaged his jaw. His lips spread across his face, revealing his bloody row of teeth. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“That was a good shot, Grey,” he said.
He spit a mouthful of blood out before waving his hand out to the car.
“You ready to go now?”
I nodded quickly and followed him over to the passenger side of the car. He opened the door for me, and I got in the car slowly, keeping my eyes on him. He spit another mouthful of blood out in front of the car before getting in the driver’s side. He flipped the visor down to look in the mirror. He pulled his lip out and his mouth was still full of blood. He looked at me and smiled.
“You got me good, Grey.”
I didn’t say anything. When he pulled off, he was no longer driving like a mad man, but he was still too quiet for a man that was still spitting out blood every other block.
“I think I should stay with Elle tonight.”
His eyebrows raised. “Why?”
“Because I think I should. I was a fool to ever think that this could work.”
Before I could stop myself, my voice was cracking.
“You lying to me when you didn’t even have a reason to lie. I asked you if you had a baby on the way and—”
“I don’t.”
“You think that crazy ass girl is breaking in a boat yard for a man that’s not her baby daddy.”
“You’re naïve to think she wouldn’t. I’m a catch.”
“You nut in every woman that you’ve ever been with! It’s a possibility that you could be the father of her baby and you sitting here lying to me and…” I paused. “I don’t know why I’m crying because you’re not even my man and I was just so fucking stupid. You’re happy now, Diesel?”
“About what?”
“You broke me! You said that you were going to break me! I even numbered my days here so I could force myself not to fall for you! You’re right. I’m naïve. Take me to Elle’s hotel!”
