She stayed silent until we were in the back seat of the car and she’d dialed her best friend on Facetime.

“Girlllll! Heyyyyy! You made it! Riding in luxury and what not!” Elle said once the phone connected.

“Yes, girl. I’m here.”

“You don’t sound excited. I heard how Big Daddy had to come rescue you from your family. They say he swooped in like the Black Knight.”

I looked at her with a smirk on my face.

“Elle, I do not have my headphones in. And please stop calling him that. Please.”

She was so embarrassed.

“My bad. Did y’all fly in first class or a jet?”

“A jet girl.”

“Oooo, was it bigger or smaller than the one we were on that time?”

She looked at me. “Smaller.”

I laughed while shaking my head. Though it was funny she thought she was taking a dig at me, I still wanted to know whose private jet she was on.

“Hm. I guess. Well, I got a head coming in the door, send me pictures of the dungeon later. Love you, bye.”

“Oh my gosh,” she mumbled before hanging up the phone. She couldn’t even look at me, so she stared out the window.

“You tell Elle everything?”

“Yeah. Kinda. She’s the only one who stayed down with me through my dark time.”

“Ah, I see.”

“Is that a problem?”

“Eventually, it could be. Especially if she becomes jealous of the relationship—”

“Or lack thereof.”

I chuckled. “That we have.”

“No. Elle is not like that. At all. She was actually more supportive of this than I was.”

“I see.”

She continued to look out the window as we rode through the streets. She snapped a few pictures. A couple times I caught her staring at herself in the camera. I hoped she knew that she was beautiful.

“Did you enjoy your time here, when you visited?”

She snapped her head at me. “How did you know that I visited here?”

“Your Instagram.”

“You went back that far? That was many many years ago. It was cool. I don’t remember it much. So much has gone on in my life since then.”

“Well, hopefully you’ll get to explore more.”

“Yeah, hopefully. Between school and gettingseatbeltedI’m not sure there will be enough time.”
