We both looked through the glass to see Diesel holding up his glass, prompting me to roll my eyes at him.
“See. Cheers,” Elle held her glass up, making me shake my head.
I was already thinking how the gossip blogs would read;Diesel Danger causes death of young schoolteacher; Greysen McCree.
Monday Morning.
Sitting on the side of the bed, I rubbed my toes through my carpet. It was five-thirty in the morning, and I could smell the coffee letting me know that my parents were up. My dad left for work at 6:45 AM every morning. So, I had a little more than an hour to tell my dad that I wouldn’t be home when he got here. I’d already drafted and sent my resignation letter to the school, letting them know that I’d decided to pursue my education out of state; effective immediately. There was no coming back from that. I was sure that Abel was going to think that it was because of him.
All last night I tossed and turned. I didn’t have the heart to tell them yesterday when I’d gotten home. I glanced at the small bag that I’d packed because Diesel said I didn’t have to pack anything. Speaking of him, I know I annoyed him because I’d texted him hourly, letting him know that I couldn’t do it. He offered very few words of comfort. I was hoping to annoy him enough so he could tell me to just forget it. He told me that he was going to bed, and he stopped texting me.
When my phone vibrated, I immediately scooped it up to see a surprising message from Diesel.
Sir:“Mom and Dad, I know this is very short notice, but I got a really good opportunity to further my studies in New York. Free room board and free tuition. It’s because of the teacher shortage.” There you go. Because I know you’re probably staring at the ceiling still scared to talk to your parents as an adult.
I rolled my eyes so hard. Immediately, I texted him back.
Me:Good morning to you too.
Sir:See in you a few, Ms. G. By the way, how is your ass feeling this morning?
Me:Do you genuinely care? Or are you being an asshole?
Sir:Both.
I sighed and put the phone down so I could get dressed. My ass felt like an ass that had been spanked ten times in nearly the same spot every time. Every time I thought about how turned on I’d gotten, I got disgusted with myself. The way he kept calling me a slut had my clit thumping. If he treated every woman he was with like that, I was sure that he had an asylum he locked them in to detox when he was done with them.
It was nearing 6:30 AM when I was done getting dressed. Taking a few deep breaths, I walked in the kitchen to see both of my parents enjoying breakfast. They both looked me up and down with weird looks on their faces. I had on a pair of gray leggings and a long sleeve t-shirt.
“I thought you worked on Mondays.”
“You’re not going to work?”
My dad and mom spoke at the same time respectively.
“Um…” I cleared my throat.
I tried to think of Diesel’s text message, but it was getting jumbled up, so I blurted out the first thing that came to my brain.
“I’m moving to New York.”
My mom dropped her fork, and my dad eased his cup of coffee away from his lips.
My mom chuckled. “When is this supposed to happen?”
“Today.”
My dad inhaled sharply and started coughing. “Pardon me.”
Diesel’s words started coming back to me slowly.
“I got a really good opportunity to further my education at Columbia. It’s a teacher shortage and they are offering a six-week program to—”
“Oh, we can’t afford that,” my mom said.
“It’s free. Free room and board. All of that.”
My dad squinted as I shifted in the seat. “What’s in the fine print?”
