“Just say it, Dad.”

“Okay, I kind of like the boy.”

I squealed and hugged him.

“Don’t get so happy. I said a little bit. I gotta spend more time with him. He passed the initial test, though. There are several more.”

“Sorry, but I knew you would like him. He’s just like you, Dad.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.”

My mom smiled before she hugged me and kissed my cheek. When I walked to the car, my dad hugged me again before closing me in.

The momentI landed in New York, Bernard drove me straight to Dymon’s office despite him telling me to wait at his house. Just being away from the office for two weeks, I missed it a lot, so I knew Dymon missed it. I smiled and waved at the receptionist and the other lingering people in the lobby.

“Quinci. How are you?” Simeon spoke to me.

Dymon told me that he’d hired him back after Declan fired him for whatever reason.

“I’m good. How are you?”

“Good to be back. And Mr. Danger gave me a raise.”

“That’s good. Top floor, please.”

He scanned me to the top floor. When the doors opened, I noticed a lone box sitting on Kia’s desk. I wasn’t expecting to see Kia because Dymon had already told me that both Roger and Kia were out as an incentive to him coming back. Rounding the corner, I paused when I saw Dymon and Kia embracing. She was crying on his shoulder and then she noticed me and moved away from him. He looked at me with wide eyes, and I cocked my head to the side.

He walked out of his office toward me.

“Baby, it’s not…I mean…look…”

I smiled. “Mr. Dymon, you are crazy, but you are not that damn crazy.”

He let out a sigh of relief.

Kia appeared behind him and touched his shoulder and then looked at me, smiling. “Take care of him.”

“I will.”

She grabbed the box and got on the elevator. He waved at her just as the doors closed. I followed him in his office, letting the door close.

“We were just talking, you know, about the accident.”

He walked around his desk and sat down, and I fell in his lap. His lip was still slightly swollen. When he told me that it was Fiona who’d hit him, I lost my mind. Against his wishes, I texted her and told her that our friendship was officially over and that she was a terrible friend. I gave her a few more choice words before telling her if I ever seen her again, I was going upside her head. I waited for hours for her to respond before I blocked her.

“That’s good. Did you all say everything that needs to be said to each other?”

“Yes. I believe we did.”

“That’s good. Both of you deserved that closure.”

“What about you? Did you talk to your parents?”

“I did. We kind of got an understanding, I think. I told them not to keep secrets from me again. Made them promise if they were going to lose the house to tell me. By the way, you can tell me if you bought the land.”

He eyed me. “Baby, no, I didn’t buy it.”
