“Quit fucking lying to me,” he said with a roll of his eyes. “You don’t have to pretend with me. I know you.”

“I feel bad about the way I kicked her out of here,” I said softly, not looking at him.

“Cane Stephens was going to apologize?” He arched an eyebrow at me.

“Shut the fuck up,” I said and we watched the TV for a bit, neither of us saying anything for a while.

“She came here,” he finally said, not looking at me.

I reached for the remote and turned off the TV. “What did you say?”

He sighed and stood up, scrubbing his face with his hand. “Lindsey came here right before the tour left.” He stopped at the foot of my bed.

“I didn’t see her,” I said.

“I know.” He leaned forward and put his hands on the rails at the foot of my bed. “I ran into her outside and told her not to come up.”

“Why?” I asked, totally confused as to why my best friend would do that to me.

He pushed off the bed and came back to the chair he had been sitting on. “You were so angry those first days. I thought I could use that anger to motivate you to walk again.”

“What the fuck man?” I muttered and leaned my head back on the bed, turning away from him. I was angry, but he had good intentions. I rolled my head over to look at him. “Do you know what she wanted?”

“I’m not sure exactly,” he shrugged. “I think she just wanted to talk.”

“What did you tell her?” I looked over at my phone and debated on whether or not I should call her. Knowing she came to see me changed everything.

“I said you were upset about not being able to walk and the tour starting again. I warned her she would get a reaction even worse than the one she got the day you kicked her out.”

I winced at his words. The hurt look on her face that day haunted my dreams.

He took a deep breath. “I may have even told her you had feelings for her.”

“What? I don’t have feelings for her!” I retorted and crossed my arms over my chest.

“Like hell you don’t,” he replied with a laugh. “I’ve never seen you so obsessed with a woman. You don’t even know the names of half the women you’ve been with but you slept with Lindsey a few times and you’re still talking about her.”

I opened my mouth to reply but I didn’t really have anything to say. He was right. As much as I hated to admit it, I did have feelings for her. I had to get my ass out of this hospital and back on that tour before it was too late.

“Have you talked to anyone on tour?” I asked nonchalantly, changing the subject.

“A few guys, why?” He asked, peering at me suspiciously.

“I was wondering about Lindsey and Drew,” I admitted.

“She slept with Drew after you, huh?” He shook his head.

“She was upset about Destiny showing up and I think he took advantage of her. Or at least that’s what I would like to believe.” I was doing a pretty good job convincing myself of that.

“So you want to know if they’re still hooking up?” He asked, getting out his phone.

“Yeah, I would.” God, I had become such a puss.

“Let me make some calls,” he nodded. “And don’t worry, I won’t say you want to know.” He winked at me. “I’m going to go have a smoke and I’ll be right back.”

“Thanks man,” I replied. My heart was racing a little bit in anticipation of what Diesel might find out about Lindsey. If she wasn’t seeing him, maybe I could get better and go to her. I didn’t know what I was going to say or what we were going to do. I’ve never had a relationship with a woman before but I could see having one with her.

While I was waiting for Diesel to get back from his information hunt, my phone rang. I looked at the screen and immediately answered when I saw it was the PI I had hired.
